My one parcel has been held in customs since Nov 03.

Seriously? Damn, I'm not willing to wait that long. Isn't there any way to speed it up? Otherwise I might has well have shipped with registered mail and waited out the three months.

I just received this from Aramex:
Please be advised that customs response is 3-6 working days as per SLA , Aramex receives and submits documents we do not have control over presiding case officers and responses just adhere to escalation process put in place by customs .

Lol, this is the worst it has ever been. Most parcels take 3 - 5 days to clear customs.

My parcel is on t's way to JHB, Aramex is prompting me to pay the shipping fees, I'm wondering if I should wait to see if there are customs due first - any thoughts?

Dee is probably the best person to answer that. I've always paid shipping immediately.

I received two of my 3 parcels yesterday, just wish they would hurry up with the Customs Clearance on the other parcel or at the very least respond to "Requests" posted on the site under the parcel...

I have no issue waiting, its just the lack of communication that is irritating.

Not even worth bothering with the requests in my opinion. Phone 011 457 3000, pick option 3. If you find the person handling your call to be pleasant enough, get their email address and just email that person directly in future. I've been dealing with a guy named Richard lately and he's been very helpful and patient. A few other names have also been mentioned in this thread. He told me to, in future, always email him my shipment number, invoice and ID directly when my package hits the dreaded "Held in Customs - Awaiting Customer Feedback" status.

He mentioned that the uploading of the invoice on the website is more for the purposes of getting your package shipped from one of your global addresses (for example, the USA address). Once it hits customs this side it's apparently best to just email one of the call centre agents directly with your invoice and ID as our customs does not interface with the AGS system at all.

Finally got the call from Aramex asking for my importer's code or ID number. Package has moved to 'Customs Clearance - In Progress' which is a huge relief. Hoping import duties is going to be sane.

Thanks for the advice, not doubting you but could you perhaps supply some rationale so that I can learn?

For me the rationale would be the FNB discount, and that customs and duties will be a seperate bill, but paying for the shipping MAY make them hurry the whole process up.

Would they even release it to customs if you haven't paid for the shipping..?
