Aramex global shopper

Got, a mail from jhb customs yesterday, looking for Id number.

Will the package arrive via courier to my home or will I need to go get it at the post office

It will be delivered via aramex(courier) to your address on Amazon.

What happens when I am not at home? I have a suspicion that one of my packages might only come after the 24th, problem is nobody will be home until 4 Jan as on holiday.

Ask at sadrones.co.za
I know nothing about drones, but a little bit of searching found these guys, who should surely know if you can courier one in from overseas.
Also, see if you can import one through Amazon. If you can, then your eBay order should be okay, as Amazon use Aramex.

Thank you for the response. Amazon does have a few options to ship to SA, but will double check with sardines.co.za

Then your parcel will reach JHB, where it will just sit. Some of my parcels had shipping paid for on 3 December. No movement or update since then.

Well it first went to London, where it sat a day. It left yesterday, and assume it will take another day to reach JHB.

Then I see the following from another thread:
How bad are customs delays, or does that not really impact you?
Generally it's no issue and we clear within a day or two but at the moment it's !@#$ing horrible to be honest. SARS have gone full retard and are just pulling packages for inspection like it's going out of fashion, they've had one order for 2 weeks+ now.
So it looks like customs affects more than just AGS right now.

Full retard is correct. I have 16 parcels in JHB.
Four are in customs for the past week. One has been in customs since November.
All but four parcels are phone accessories and are under R400 per parcel.
The other four parcels are from Google and are $29 max or R448 per parcel.

Pity Aramex isn't more transparent about customs clearance. 15 Days later and customs still hasn't finished up with my parcel. I just wish someone at Aramex could reply and tell my that they actually followed up. Instead I received one reply a while ago from the most useless employee at Aramex telling me their SLA is 3-6 working days. I mailed the guy to tell him the 6 working day window has now elapsed.... no reply. A google search on this guy reveals terrible work ethic all the way from DHL, TNT through to Aramex.

That said, my Echo Mini made it through customs last week, still waiting for delivery. My Google Home Mini was shipped from the US Google store to the NY AGS address today. At least my christmas gifts to myself are on the way. The one held in customs, I think will be my an easter gift by the looks of it.

Also have an Echo and echo dot on the way. have they charged you customs and how much?

I am now starting to get properly fscked off..

My Google Home was stuck in Customs for a few days because THEY cocked up the Tariff Code on the SARS application. Now they have to apply for Vouchers of Correction or something or other, but the onus lies on ME to fix the documents and and and.. but I'm also getting sweet FA feedback from them in terms of when things will happen.

No customs charged. Ordered on Amazon and sent to NY address. AGS shows package as 0.85lb and was classified as "Electronics".

I started "augmenting" my invoices I upload to AGS by adding the HS Code for the item as a text annotation on the PDF. E.g. for the google home mini: 85176290

Should I order "large value" items through AGS ever again, I will attach the Tariff Codes and all that to the documentation as well...

I also have no issue with them making a mistake, but I do have an issue when things just end up in a big black hole with no communication. I even ended up phoning Olivia and she told me she hasn't forgotten about me, and I just left it at that but a reponse to the email would be good. Even a very simple "We apologise but we're still awaiting feedback" or something.

"HS Code stands for Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System.. ... The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System generally referred to as “Harmonized System” or simply “HS” is a multipurpose international product nomenclature developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO)." Sep 16, 2009

You want to know how complicated it gets? Visit here: http://www.dubaitrade.ae/hs-code-search

I used to work for a Zebra skin exporter (no kidding), and that was a total nightmare when it came to export. Glad that is all behind me.

Quoting an HS Code is a great idea - but unless you know precisely what you are doing you will give the incorrect code, and confuse everybody. Customs Brokers are very trained individuals that know the categories and sub categories required for such HS Code. Aramex uses such people to help clear parcels through customs.
When it comes to our small imports through AGS, rather just be honest and send in a clear invoice and let the guy do his job.

Having said all this, I have been instructed by my brother to inform you that if you really want to add the HS Code, Canada Post have quite an easy webpage to use: https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/wtz/business/findHsCode?execution=e1s2

All I can add is this - be certain the code is correct, or don't use it at all.

Depends really..

Mine took about a day in NY before being shipped on.. Once in SA its been a bit of a crapshoot though.

Does anyone have any ideas on how VAT would be calculated on a carbon fiber bicycle frame sent through the AGS US origin? The frame cost $200 + $85 for shipping to the US address. I contacted AGS to get a vat/duties estimate and they told me R2810. Thats the same value as the frame itself. I did a HS code lookup and its 8714.91 with 0% duties and 14% vat (with a possible 10% markup on the price). That still only brings me to roughly R500 and nothing near the estimate they provided. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
