Aramex global shopper

Do jump ropes (sports goods) carry import duties? A local us supplier is charging like R165 shipping with dhl but its estimating duties and taxes to be R665 if the goods are worth R1000. Is that correct or should I just use AGS in this case?

anything imported into SA that is over R500 visits customs. However, ropes are exempt from duty...I think.

I have just emerged victorious from a fight I had via email regarding an amount of customs duty.
Some person their side looked at 530 Chinese Renminbi (Yuan) and decided it was US$.
1 Chinese Yuan equals 2,16 South African Rand.
1 United States Dollar equals 14,84 South African Rand.
Needless to say, I was less than charmed.

So far so good. In the last month I have had one or two issues where items at the New York origin took 3 days to show in my account but once they hit South Africa I was pleasantly surprised to see them whizz through customs in 1 day flat.
 
Do parcels brought in via Ags counted towards your 3 parcel import limit?
Has anyone been asked for their importers code?
 
Anyone know if AGS system is down? Clicking through each of my parcels (new and old), all show as 'Shipment not found'. Quite strange.
 
Seeing as this has become an issue anyone know any person/companies that will register you for an importers code for a fee....?

I don't know exactly where MyBB got the requirements as only being able to register as a company, if you check in this thread someone has registered in their personal capacity.

Unless it's a new ruling?
 
Don't quite know what you are referring to, but I was never asked for any company details when I obtained my import / export code.
Sure, it was a bitch to get (you have to 100% follow the instructions in this thread on how to do it), but that piece of paper is in my name, not any companies.

There was recently an article on mybb saying one had to have a company registered/register under a company in order to have an importers license.
 
Yip, unless they received some new information with regards to the regulations.
 
It seems as if MyBB is doing a quiet panic over this importers code.
I think SARS is cracking down (that's if they even are) because they want to regulate items coming in vs. items going out - balance of trade - and if you have a code the importers (even the Post Office) are obliged to note it each time an import arrives.
Now, obtaining an importers code does not cost you money. It does cost you time and effort. As the MyBB search is so **** I cannot easily find my "How to" post, or MagicDude4Eva's post even earlier. Luckily I kept his original post as a text document.
