Ah yeah I see. I'm wondering what percentage a good driver would want.
I saw an article on Moneyweb that said "He is making between R4000 and R5000 in profit per vehicle per month – and that’s after petrol, vehicle finance, insurance, cellphone for his drivers – he supplies them with phones – tracking devices, maintenance, “I’m also of course paying Uber its 20% of the revenue, because Uber takes 20%.”" (link: http://www.moneyweb.co.za/moneyweb-...oker-and-shareholder-in-a-large-uber-partner/)
If you have 2 or 3 cars then that's a good amount of profit for minimal work. I suppose you have to get special insurance if you're using your vehicle for commercial purposes.
Im quite happy to answer any questions you might have about being an Uber partner and Uber driver. It's still early days for me as a Partner/Driver, but I have been using Uber myself for months, gathering info and talking to LOADS of drivers about their business tricks and dodgy dealings to cheat the system.
Having your own vehicle and being the driver yourself is obviously going to yield the most profit.
There are lots of shenanigans going on with the drivers at the moment... some of the stories I've heard...
So the drivers are all registered with Uber, and wait for Uber to give them a car. One of the big issues that Uber turn a blind eye to, is that a lot of the drivers are previous taxi drivers, with connections. Lot's of them. So they use their connections to get trips, for cash, without using the app at all. This way the driver makes good money, but the owner and Uber see no $$$
Then there is the City of Cape Town who are no longer issuing Metered Taxi Permits. The problem is that if you get caught by the ghost squad, they can now not only fine you, but impound your car. So here is the thing, they drive around town looking for guys driving around slowly staring at their phone, and usually a dark skinned guy. They are nailing them in droves.
It's sad really, because it's a good system but the powers at be dont want to share the pie.
