A 49-year-old man was arrested for speeding on the N1 near Maraisburg offramp on Sunday, said Johannesburg metro police.
"He was caught doing 234km/h on his green Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle this afternoon [Sunday]. He had also covered the two letters of his number plate with black tape in a bid to avoid being caught on speed camera," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
234kph is hardly newsworthy. People seem to have an odd obsession with speeding bikers. I'm sure they must be responsible for a lot of fatal accidents where they kill others.

So lets say this guy and his bike had a mass of 200kg.
Ek = 0.5*200*(234/3.6)^2
= 422 500 J, or 422.5 kJ of kinetic energy.
To give you and idea of how retarded that is, immagine a 5 tonne truck, lets see how fast that 5 tonne truck has to travel to have the same kinetic energy.
422 500 J = 0.5 * 5 000 kg *v^2
169 = v^2
13 = v
13*3.6 = 46.8 km/hr
So this bike going at that speed would STOP DEAD A 5 TONNE TRUCK HEAD ON (one of those sand carrying trucks) THAT WAS DRIVING AT 47km/hr.
Can you now use your noodle to figure out what would happen if this guy had hit a bakkie? Or even a hatchback? Or heaven forbid a human being?

..He's more likely to kill someone with the golf compared to the bike. Those things at 80kmh are way worse than any bike at 200kmh, no point in having a 40 year old design on the roads.
The biker is an idiot though, if you gonna speed at least do it on an empty road or track
Difference is that a bike isn't a rigid body... so most of the energy will go into the bike falling apart, and the rider liquidizing...

at 234km/h, or rather 65m/s, that would mean anything in 13 meters and less from the rider and he will not react in time to it...
It is absolutely stupid to do that on public roads, much less on South African roads... All it takes is a pot hole at that speed to make you paint the town red...
If you wanna speed, go to a race track... That way you know the track will be in a good condition... I love speed, but I just can't imagine why a person would put so much trust in the SA roads. Even a glass bottle will be a deadly encounter.

This is where an easy mistake can be made. Kinetic energy depends A LOT more on speed than it does mass. A citi golf has a gross laden mass of 1270 kg (http://www.um.co.za/specifications/volkswagen_citi_golf_1_4i_velociti_(2006).aspx)
So for a golf at 80km/hr
Ek = 0.5*1270*(80/3.6)^2
= 313 580.25 J
That bike had 422 500 J of kinetic energy.
That bike has 34.73 % more kinetic energy than the car, even though the bike is 1/6th the mass.
And this is ignoring the fact that cars have crumple zones to absorb most (70%) of this energy.
Granted, a bike has better brakes and is more manouverable (at low speeds), but if you are sitting on a missile, be it pointy or big and flat - either one is going to kill people.
A pointy hard missile is much more deadly than one that is a squishy in the front.
