Article: DA apologises for fake ANC pamphlets

But then fundamentally, there is something wrong with the policies of the DA, if an over-enthusiastic demonstration of the party's policies leads to something like this...

If the DA was 10 members, perhaps your point would be realistic. The DA is huge. I personally have never met anyone from that part of the world. I dont know any of them. In many cases we fight completely different issues. To put it in perspective... a municipality like East London has more than 15 wards, each of those wards can have branches that have 200 -300 activist volunteers. This is just one town. There are plenty of people and mistakes do happen.

Also, the amount of work your do in the DA is phenomenal. It consumes your entire life. Those people work day and night and to be honest are often over worked. This leaves room for mistakes to creep in.

The DA has many different types of members, the majority of them are hard working people working their asses off for SA, but it also includes a few corrupt ones (that are dealt with as soon as they are found), ex-ANC ones who try scuttle events. Its just massive. There are always going to be mistakes. No amount of policy will stop mistakes or intentional mistakes from happening. Thats dream world idealist stuff. There are going to be members that embarrass the party (and I promise you, right now DA members are more embarrassed than any member of the public). Its how they deal with those embarrassments that is telling. Do they hide and cover them up or do they face them and hold the people accountable? My personal view is they do hold the bad apples accountable. Thats what I see around me.

Using the ANC logo I think is a serious breach of IEC rules (which is against DA policy). The DA have admitted there was a screw up, the party is embarrassed and I am sure people are going to be held accountable.

Then you also need to acknowledge that the ANC is much bigger than the DA so we should blame all their failures on how big the party is and how difficult it is to police every person

I actually do. I dont judge the ANC on a couple of bad apples. I judge them on the fact I cant find good apples. Also, the ANC protect their bad apples something crazy.

The difference here is that the DA will take action against this.

The ironic thing is that the corrupt mayor Mapethele still has to face any kind of disciplinary action from the ANC.

Everybody seems to be overlooking that.

[-]Everybody[/-] Some people seem to be overlooking that.

We all agree on that, but wrong is wrong

There are different levels of wrong, too. A mistake on a poster <> corruption, maladministration and fraud.

Absolutely, but just because robbery and rape are different degrees does not mean we neglect the one for the other. It wasn't the DA as a whole that did this and they will most likely be held responsible, but i'm more angry that their reputation took a hit because some members acted prematurely

I don't recall you complaining this loudly about the mayor's corruption.
Maybe you did and you can point it out to me.
But your anger seems extremely disproportionate here.

It really seems like a mountain out of a molehill situation to me, unless I'm missing something. Put the wrong ANC logo on a poster? OH NOEZ!

I missed the mayor's corruption completely sadly, as i do a lot of other posts while i play my nonsense games and work

I've yet to see these pamphlets, i just read this:

The party admitted in Parliament on Wednesday that it distributed false ANC posters carrying disparaging messages that denounced ANC mayoral candidate Maphetle Maphetle.

The media is known for cocking things up, so it's really possible that they just put the wrong logo on. But really, how stupid must you be to print something incorrectly, AND distribute it without seeing the logo? If it was truly an accident, they don't really care about the quality of their pamphlets without checking them

Disparaging messages? Oh noez, again! It's politics and they're trying to score points off the ANC's debacle.

Well they claim it wasn't authorised, so it could just have been a mistake. Let's wait and hear. Not nice that it happened, but they already fixed the problem and apologised to the ANC.

what's new in politics? :)

yep, which is redeemable, just not to the ANC/DA supporters who had to complain about it

If the DA have now adopted the "if you can't beat them, join them" method of political campaigning, they have lost my vote. I would want to see the DA taken quick action on this underhand 'a-la-ANC' electioneering tactic, otherwise they could lose a lot of support

they adopted that at inception - and its the point which DA bunnies refuse to understand.
The DP was a party that could be voted for in clean conscience but the entire formation of the DA was an adoption of a cynicism and quest for power that is as corrupt as the corrupt core that is holding the ANC to power.

These gaffes shouldn't surprise anybody ever

it depends on the election as to who I vote for
but yes I am in full favour of spoiling the ballot as a legitimate political expression. Moreover being vocal about not voting is less apathetic than voting for a party that thrives on apathy.
in the last general election I voted for COPE nationally and provincially and in the last Local Government election I voted ANC ward, DA local and district

This will be the first election this DA "bunny" (dehumanization in the insults but anyways...) will be voting DA. In the past I have wasted my votes on the UDM, ID and COPE.

South Africa has more political parties than any other country. If you cant find one to vote for perhaps you should start your own :)

in politics, i think it's always better to pick the lesser evil. other evils will always be around :p
