Article: Eat dairy with caution: Noakes

Guess what hoaxers, you have to buy the new edition of his book, free from the corporate greed of the dairy industry.

I wonder what is next on the list? I bet it is vegetables.

I'm not sure why everyone is making a big deal of this?

From Real Meal Revolution, page 26, point 9:

Control your dairy. Although dairy is good for you, it does contain carbs and can be a stumbling
block for some. In your Banting beginning, perhaps avoid eating too much dairy. Butter is still good!

The book has stated this from the beginning?

I have high fat raw milk. It's probably the skimmed milk people consume is the problem.

lol.

So some random anecdotes from random 'dieters' is enough for dairy to be deemed... unsavoury?
So he's pandering to the masses? If he's got a diet he believes will provide optimal health and can lead to weight loss if the diet is adhered to....then why give in to the people who want fast results? Because tbh the people complaining about something like a diet not working quick enough are the people who are going to drop the diet as soon as they've lost the weight. I was under the impression he was about optimal health, not quick ways to lose weight.

Yeah, that's what I thought to. The whole 'lifestyle, not diet' angle.

It is about $$$.

This is, perhaps, a more sensible criticism as opposed to a quick glance at the sensationalist headlines and determining that Banting doesn't work.

However, he has mentioned it in his book, I think the only thing they need to do is perhaps use a bigger font for those who couldn't actually be bothered to fully read the rules!

Yeah, that's what I thought to. The whole 'lifestyle, not diet' angle.

Problem is until the dieters reach their goal weight they can never be the lifestylers. I'm losing slowly, only about 1kg a month. However, I'm not strict and enjoy wine and craft beers on weekends.

Isn't the idea that if you do it with the 'lifestyle' angle you don't need to feel as if you're on some horribly restrictive diet? You just eat 'properly' and you'll lose wait naturally and sustainably?

That is, in practice, pretty much how it feels to me.

This.I wonder when people will wake up and realise that to be slim and healthy you have to change your lifestyle, not go on the latest BS diet.
Him changing his words on dairy based on a few fatties who cant shed the weight is not a very scientific approach.

I also think that it's being blown out of proportion.

It's like the person who complains to the doctor - "It hurts when I do this".

"Well, stop doing it".

Unfortunately we do live in a society of instant gratifications, added to that and mentioned in the book is the option of ketosis for initial weight loss - which you will have difficulty achieving if you eat too much dairy.

This is not a newfangled diet involving bizarre strategies and supplements that you’ll never be able to stick to. Rather, it’s a return to your dietary roots, bringing you back to the way humans are meant to eat and returning your body and mind back to the trim, happy, energised state our ancestors experienced thousands of years ago. They didn’t get fat or suffer from obesity, diabetes or other lifestyle illnesses.

You mean to this?

Naturalistic fallacy. Just because it is natural, doesn't mean it is good for you. Ebola for example is a lovely example or nature.

As for lifestyle diseases, most people didn't get past 40 so you would struggle to find anyone with symptomatic heart disease anyway. Add that to the fact that most people had to do lots of physical exertion to get food.

The really funny thing about your healthy carbless ancestor theory is that people have been eating bread and cards for thousands of years.

The last thing I want to add is this:
Removing a major food group is from your diet and not calling it a diet is rubbish.
Google defines diet as " the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats", thus what Noakes calls a lifestyle©®™, is in fact a diet.
He is using another word to try and distance his diet from the rest of the failed dieting "revolutions" .

Do any of us who use this actually care about all the haters having their 15 minutes of fame in this thread? I know I don't. It's worked bloody well for me and I'm still on it because I've adapted to it and it's now my 'lifestyle'.

Too much of idiotic lips flapping ........
