Article: Eat dairy with caution: Noakes

Even that's a misnomer. It's 99% diet.

Telling fat people to exercise is like telling an anorexic to stop exercising.

That is stupid, the scenario does exist where someone can be fit and overweight.
For example, when I wanted to start losing weight, I hit the treadmill and rowing machines hard.
Within 2 months, my heart rate was sitting at around 60 BPM and blood pressure was 120/60. All this whilst I was still quite overweight at this point (about 8kg from the start)

Doing lots of exercise will reduce your risk factors to heart disease faster than any diet possible. It will also increase your rate of weight loss as well.

Though through your own admission it's not a 50/50 split?

(Not arguing, just accessing).

Derp. You're basically rephrasing my point. We're talking about weight loss. Not about being fit.

In his book Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It, Gary Taubes argues quite convincingly that exercise is not very effective to lose weight (though it does have other benefits) because it has the effect of stimulating appetite. People tend to eat more as they exercise more.

That is the problem, ppl assume they need to eat more when training.A calorie restricted diet, coupled with an exercise routine (Im starting to sound like an infomercial) will guaranteed weight loss.Dont listen to every growl your tummy makes, sometimes you must ignore hunger pains if you want to reach a goal.No pain no gain(this is a mental block for overweight people).

Why not just say that starvation will guarantee weightloss?

You miss the whole point if you think that there has to be pain. There doesn't. You can lose weight by change of diet alone. Yes, if you are trying to increase the rate at which you lose exercise will help. But if you continue seeing weight control as only being possible through pain, well, who would change their lifestyle for that?

I wanted to loose weight fast and combined a diet with exercise. Once I got to my goal weight I was hooked on running and cycling it was already part of my lifestyle. Now I can eat as I please but since I have a more active lifestyle my weight is stable.
