Article: Trevor Noah tweet causes outcry

Anybody would be better than "Stewart". So Trevor Noah, good for you on getting the job. Make sure to send those dollars back to South Africa.... what's the chance.

You probably like your jokes where you dont have to think a bit.

The 'ebola joke' is not about the devastation of the desease etc, but the fact that Americans are so ignorant about what it is and where the outbreak is.
To airport screening guards, when you come off a plane from Joburg you may as well come from Liberia.

See? That wasnt so hard to work out...it's funnier when you use 3rd world knowledgeto poke at western society.

Comedy Central know what they are doing.

Most of the comedy that you 'like' in South Africa, is only funny in south african vernacular or with knowledge of SA...Noah is unlike most South African Comedians in that respect.

Edit: BTW...when someone deals with 'observational jokes' like Noah does i.e. observations of what people do, then if you cannot figure out the joke or say "hey...I've seen that type of person"....then the possibility is that you are maybe like that person. Humour is quite close to people without them knowing, and they may even be the humour.

On another point...most of the world was caught by surprise at the announcement, so they obviously went "who..Trevor who?", just like an Aussie mate of mine jokingly asked, "is he Yannick's brother"?

So what do they do? Oh...let's ask Dr Google, and guess what ranks high on Google...yes,. noise. Noise ranks higher. So suddenly everyone of these "twits" are experts on who he is and what he stands for.

Noah has tweeted a grand total of 8,904 times since joining Twitter in June 2009; if you do the math on that, it means the comedian has been sending roughly four tweets per day since he was just a hair over 25 years old. Six of those 8,904 tweets — in other words, .067 percent of Noah’s total Twitter output — were offensive. Terribly offensive. I mean, let’s not gloss over this: They were terrible, stupid, ignorant, unfunny jokes about things like overweight women and Jews.

Regardless of whether you think these sorts of stereotypes and cheap shots are theoretically acceptable in comedy — let’s not forget that, even as the Noah controversy unfolded, Comedy Central was airing a fantastically nasty and racially tinged Justin Bieber roast — they’re not even good or clever or nuanced cheap shots. They are bad, stupid jokes. They have no redeeming quality.

And yet: six tweets, out of almost 9,000?! That’s not exactly a representative sample.

Who cares if he said something about fat chics. They should focus on losing weight instead of spending their energy crying about it. Typical fat person response - the problem isn't me, it's your insensitivity...

A better comedian would be the Obama visit sign language guy SA government used on public TV. Now that was comedy gold.
 
He needs to only bash social conservatives, white men and Christians. He'll do great then. Every other group is beyond satire and -isms and -phobias will be used against him. Liberals are hypocrites.
 
Irony is, Jon Stewart is jewish and most likely have made similar if not worse jokes than this about jews, #getasenseofhumour

Isn't Noah part Jewish too? 1/4. Thing is that Stewart, born Leibowitz, is permitted to crank out Jewish jokes to some extent. It's like American blacks making black jokes and so on. Of course it's also ok for non-Evangelicals, non-Christians etc to attack Evangelicals/Christians. There is an inconsistency here.

Noah is a 1/4 Jewish and probably is being attacked partly because of some latent racism in the US. He is too black and foreign to make the few jokes he made. I don't think there'd be such a big outcry if Stewart or Sandler or Allen made such jokes.

In the US, Christians like Jews are sacred cows.
 
This smacks of jealousy. They couldn't find a worthy American successor to Stewart so they slamming Noah.

American comics jobs are on the line like Barr the old hag.
