I hope there is someone that can assist.

I have a Samsung Xpress M2079FW printer/scanner/copier.

Worked fine up to a few weeks ago when it started its problems.

It does not print and when I check under devices and printers, its shows that there is a second printer with the same name installed and selected as the default printer. I then remove that device but am unable to select the "old" printer as my default one (because there is no option to select it as such when I right click the printer icon). Because it is not the default printer, it naturally does not print any document I send.

Any ideas?

TIA

try remove both and reinstall? at least just the one that exist;

seen something similar to that when you get a MFP that has both fax and print cababilities, windows confuses everybody with putting them together;

alternitivly make sure you setup to USB mode only, no wifi or NFC connection;

I switched the printer on and off and something I noticed just now is that it says that the device driver software was not installed successfully.

Anything I can do to fix that?

Remove (USB or TCP depends on the physical connection) virtual printing port, uninstall drivers. It will be probably more ports defined, delete all. Reboot. See if you can remove remainder ghost printers.

In some cases you can't delete a printer while there is documents in the print queue.
Right click on the printer and go to "See what's printing". Delete everything in there and then delete the printer again.
