ASUS EEE PC - 7" Laptop

This xandros does seem buggy :( got the advanced mode working fine but when i reboot my taskbar crashes and is just gone! I've checked the eee forums and it is mentioned once but with no solution :( thinking of throwing xp at it which should keep it happy...specially the lite version.

Hehe. Sies indeed:) i had a look at puppy last night. I'm gonna stick xp on a stick later and install it that way. If it's stable then i'll be happy with it. Might check out puppy at some later stage. For now, i just need the thing to work :p

I enabled the Advanced mode on mine, no hassles thus far, if you do not mind, how did you go about doing it ?
 
You guys must install Ubuntu on it. Works like a charm.

Just enable the 3D desktop effects and you've got something that looks better than Vista with 1/4 of the processing power.

Maybe I'll give that a go...hmmm. Cos that will no doubt result in better battery life I am sure...

Problems problems...

Ubuntu does not work for me. Managed to get it onto a USB stick and treid to boot from there but it didn't work. Also, with only 2GB HDD space to play with a full Ubuntu install is going to be too big anyway...

So I have tried getting XP onto my drive to install from there....But I cannot get peTOusb to recognise my stick as a drive :( I have looked around the net and can't really find an answer to this issue.

I'd say get Chubby Puppy which comes with OpenOffice.org.

Hmmm more issues here. I went for the standard 3.0 Version of Puppy which was like 100MB. I am running it now off a USB stick on the EEE. There is no sound, and it won't open large documents in Abiword. It just hangs :(
 
@ hj2k_x - if you have access to an external hard drive enclosure (standard IDE HDD's) then you can use that to drive a standard CDRom unit - and install Ubuntu that way instead of the memory stick.

Can't you do a network install?
