Gonna go with XP first. This Linux is killing me!
 
Wow, and i thought XP was going to be easy....:(

Got a CDROM attached to the EEE via USB and that part works fine. Now, when I try to install Xo the normal way, it detects the CDROM fine and starts installing Xp like normal.

I delete all the partitions and format and then install XP on the partition. First I get an error saying "one of the components necessary to install windows is missing and install can't continue" then when I try again I get a BSOD with messages about "be sure you have adequate disk space, try changing video adapters and the like"

I have tried four different Xp bootable CD's, with different but simliar distros of XP on. I have also tried two different CDROM drives and I still get the same messages :(

Any ideas?!
 
@ hj2k_x - I have posted a query on your behalf on the smoothwall community as there's a couple of guys with Eee PC's.

Hopefully they'll have an answer and some linkies ;)

Slipstreaming XP with SP2 (or SP3) is not that difficult. :)

It is integrating now at least. Was a typo on my part

update -s:c:\xp and not
update -s:c: \xp :p
 
Still no joy. The integrated boot CD i made with SP2 on it just makes the EEE hang on a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top right....

And otherwise, I don't have a version of XP CD that has SP2 actually on the CD...
 
For the smaller drive, have a look at installing puppy linux, hehe

Did you use nLite to make the initial install smaller? I don't think a Full XP install would fit on the 2GB HDD

I tried that last night. It ran nicely on my main machine but when I put it on the EEE there was quite a bit of lag when dealing with big documents which ended up in some just not opening. Also, there was no sound :(

I did make an XP SP0 install smaller but then it wouldn't install due to the fact that there was no SP2, which is needed.

You think a full install will be more than 2GB? It has been a while since I have been running XP...:p

I just don't want to go through the mission of nLite again- It took me ages to go through all the steps...

My (normal acer) laptops hard disk crashed, and I have not got a replacement, but I did have a 512mb SD card. So now I just use that :D ... and still no hard disk.
 
Found Xp SP2 CD.

It is installing. No crashes/BSOD yet. But the timer still says 39 minutes to completion...

Can see the CD drive and the lappie hdd are both working(the lights are flashing) so fingers crossed.....
