Australian iBurst FAQ

So they claim 15Mbps per tower effective, 50:1 contention. So number of users (connected at 1Mbps) is approx 15*50=750 per tower...?

OK, so whats wrong with our IBURST. Looks like we got the "Mini Me" version!

Q6 What amount of latency is there in the trial network?

Latency measured in the trial network is 40 to 60 ms, with and average of 50 ms for roundtrip delay when pinging a local website.

Q7 What is the anticipated maximum latency in a fully deployed national network?

Anticipated maximum latency is the same as the trial network for a lightly loaded system. For a heavily loaded system, latency is expected to increase, with a target average latency not to exceed 100ms roundtrip for 95% of the time.

An idea that comes to mind. Why doesn't anyone here make contact with someone from the Australian network operators and find out from them some technical details of the system... that way we can challenge WBS on a new level and prove they're screwing us over

Just btb, TheRodent should know, they probably using crappy microwave links etc like Sentech did. Sentech was forced to replace some of their long ranged microwaves as they sucked ass.

another example of good technology being brought down by the "hey, but this is cheaper!" mentality...

Crappy microwave links????!!!??? Well then chaps, there's your answer as to why it's up and down with iBurst!! I used to have a lot of fun with them when I worked for Telkom- they caused me a lot of headaches. Skilled microwave techs are scarcer than hen's teeth in SA and most of them were poached out of Telkom by MTN & Vodacom.
