Hi Chaps :)

Used Avg many years ago, Avast installed on both main pc and laptop. Was thinking of giving Avg a try again and wondered what your thoughts are? Heard of some issues with Avg about a year or so ago.

Avast has not given me any problems to date, well besides a few false positives (hmmm mainly warez ;)). Basically these are the only two free AVs that are reliable today (well as far as I know).

Thank you in advance :).

tbf if you are smart about what files you download etc, then i would guess even the default MS option would work well.

i often download dodgy stuff and avast (and avg tbf) have handled them well.

My first choice would be Avast, because its free, and offers all the functionality that I require. If I needed more, I would go for Kaspersky, very good application!

Avast is the way to go! Like it more then avg cause it can run boot scans which i think is the way to the future! Im 100% sure you will prefer avast to avg.

Avast over AVG any day. As for paid for apps I would like to try NOD32 at some point.

Ive used AVG ever since i got a pc many moons ago cant say ive had any issues with it, ive never seen or used Avast. . . Im a bit cautious to switch. . . If it aint broke why fix it.

Avg version < 8 = ok . 8 Is a nightmare....its MUCH slower...takes WAY longer to do a full scan ect , heavier on system resources ect. 6/10

Avast is much less intensive on system , does an excellent job at cleaning a system/protection. 8/10

Kaspersky is 1 notch up on both of them , but it aint for beginners if you select full protection(firewall). 9.5/10

Don't judge any antivirus by it's skill to "repair/recover" an infected machine...thats not it's primary purpose. It is to protect you in the first place.

AVG used to literally take over my CPU for a few minutes making my PC unusable. Everytime I open a new folder, there was a 15 second pause while AVG scanned all the files.

I've changed to avast and it is a vast improvement :D
