Hi guys

I would like to know if anyone in the Brackenfell area is currently experiencing extreme lag, even to Cape Town, in the order of 1000 to 2000ms? I live in Vredekloof and my speed has been frustratingly slow for the last couple of months now.

My ISP, Axxess says it is line-congestion (Telkom issue), even the Telkom technician says he thinks it might be congestion, but this is just beyond ridiculous. Plus I've seen their bakkies around a couple of boxes working, even at the oddest hours of the night, so something is definitely up. I mean I used to live literally not even a kilometer from where I currently live and this kind of lag issue I only ever experienced 1 or twice in a month, perhaps two months . Now it is every damned day and it's been getting steadily worse. What I am currently paying, and what little I get out of it is no longer making any kind of "fiscal" sense to me, as it is I am using my iPhone now as a 3g dongle so that I can actually post this question to you guys.

Anybody else experiencing this?

you should test with other ISP accounts on different backbones to get a fuller picture
congestion in different points of the networks involved (both Telkom and the ISPs) are inherently nuanced and you can have things having a domino effect such that a straight up "line-congestion" explanation is fraught

you can hop onto Crystal Web live support and ask the technician to help you with some diagnostics (part of the general contribution to the ecosystem) and getting information from more than one provider to escalate with Telkom

With Axxess it's quite hard to get them to admit any faults. When they do, their status indicator is always green.

get the free afrihost 1Gb account and try that one as well will be Number locked.

CT is sluggish with high pings and slow gaming. No point in calling they will say all OK.

Get a free WebAfrica account to test.
I did. It is Axxess causing the fault.

It looks like they are oversubscribed because just before midnight the high latency disappears.

Axxess support is hopeless.

Then move somewhere else. I don't understand why people hang around and wait for their ISP to fix things when there are working alternatives available.

I have tried many IPS and all start off great until some small minded top director guy decides they need to give us less for more.

It gets very tiresome to hop around. This is why I bought a capped account, because there should be less chance of the account changing character.

Axxess/ Afrihost...different ISP's same issues on both.

Both run on MTN backbone so what does that tell you?
