Axxess & p2p..throttling?

That's local downloading Kalvaer which has NO effect on anyone elses speed.
There is so much bandwidth on the local loop, it would take 10000 people abusing it like that to cause any problems.

Have YOU noticed any speed degradation on your ADSL ?
I certainly haven't, other than that caused by network problems unrelated to downloading.

There's no ways a person can download anymore than 7gig on a 3gig account internationally - it's just not possible on a 512 line.
Sure, when they are capped internationally, they can download as much as they want locally, but again, I repeat that it has NO effect on any other services, because the numbers of users doing it are insignificant and we have ample unused bandwidth on the local loop.

Is it still not abuse.. Does this not explain why we suspect Telkom to be implementing a local cap??? How many of the ADSL users out there are not doing this? Thats what I want to know? If i'm wrong then I'll say sorry. I'm still not going to like P2P, but I will admit that I was in the wrong!

You read most of the threads here BB... How many people download more than double their allocated amounts.. It just seems wrong to me! And most of them.. on P2P:(

EDIT:
And yes BB, I have had problems recently. Specifically due to my pings shooting through the roofs.. After checking these boards and seeing how most where saying "Internatinal Bad".. " End of the Month. .Its the P2P again" .. "Give it a week" and then reading people where downloading like they where.. HELL I lost my cool. It drove me mad. Especially since it was people here on MYADSL... Clipse knows how mad I was because I got a NukeCap account ASAP, Though I still think its unfair that I have to fork out extra money to be able to enjoy my connection while others abuse it! Or am I wrong?

The reason people are downloading so much is quite simple, we are paying an absolute fortune for a tiny amount of data while Telkom rake in the profits.

It's simple really, they screw us, so we screw them as much as we possibly can to try to get our moneys worth.

Right now, I'm paying R1000 a month for 10gig of data - that's sometimes 10% of what I make a month, depending on how much freelance I get in.
I pay more for bandwidth than I do for frikkin' petrol !

It's disgusting - so I commend anyone who can fsck this greedy company over and download as much data as they possibly can, until the message gets across that we want cheap, affordable abundant bandwidth.

BB you know I've hate the caps and I've helped give info and Data where I can and completly agree with everyone that we are being ripped off

But by doing this you are not screwing Telkom.. You are screwing every single one of us! Thats what i'm trying to get across... We know we arn't hurting telkom.. But we are hurting each other with childish arrogent, only thinking about ourselfs behavior

I'm also paying 1k a month.. I work full time, Study Part time trying to get a degree and better myself, and I would like my fun time to be uninterrupted by other members of my community..Is my money worth any less than yours or anyone else's,

Unfortunately Kalvaer you're hoping for a Utopian internet society, which like real society doesn't exist. As with any system you will always get people who will abuse the system and not give a rats ass about others on it regardless of how upset you get. It is up to the ISP (in this case Telkom) to implement and enforce boundries (which Telkom are supposedly doing) so your anger would be more constructively directed at Telkom.

LOL very true Perdition,

However I can not understand how the admins and mods of MyADSL can let these people stand by and brag about destorying a system... that MyADSL is trying to fix. What is that going to do to the credibility of MyADSL?

It does not make any sense to me?

MyADSL is build on freedom of speech, for those wanting to utilise full line or not. Its their choice and they pay for it dearly month to month with ADSL bills and what not.

Correct me if im wrong, but this is the foundation of MyADSL, everyone is welcome. In fact, these heavy abusers as some would call them, actually do alot of good for telkom in showing that there is ALOT of bandwidth available even when Telkom says otherwise..

Think about it, no local access bottlenecks with 60000 odd adsl users, roughly 58000 of these would be on saix network and other 2000 on IS/UUNET. UUNET suffered locally with their 10mbit odd for uncapped adsl, afaik. With saix having uncapped locally and alot of users going 150gig+ a month locally, we have not seen the system crippled.

If it has been crippled, show me some proof :)

Facts remain, Local ACCESS is plenty... even international is plenty from AFRICA... and since South-Africa is the primary Africa country, im sure we have 80% of this available to us:

"Shared/public access and the use of corporate networks is continuing to grow at greater rates than the number of dialup users. This can be seen in the deployment of international Internet bandwidth, which still expanding substantially – up over 100%, from just over 700 Mbps of available outgoing bandwidth in 2001 to 1 500 Mbps in 2002 (although this is still slower than the rest of the world, which averaged 174% growth in 2001, with Latin America at 479%)" - Source: http://www3.sn.apc.org/africa/afstat.htm

Im tired of saying this over and over, and so many others probably agree with me.. South-Africa do have the bandwidth, stop thinking we dont.!!

I fail to see how you can say users are trying to destroy a system that is so flawed to begin with.

IMO many users try to download such large amounts simply out of spite. We're paying obscene amounts of money for a piss-poor service - wouldnt you expect people to try to get as much as they can considering what they have to pay?

Give people international caps of international standards and the vast amount of so called abuse will fall away.

Clipse I said to you earlier I agree with the fact that we have enough bandwidth and also that we are being ripped off. Everyone knows that, But do two wrongs make a right?

Taken from the main page :
MyADSL was formed in 2003 to serve as a source of information and a place where broadband users can discuss issues openly and share information. In addition to serving its basic function MyADSL will work with relevant organizations to try and improve the broadband Internet services in South Africa. We are therefore a true South African Broadband Users Group

If anyone can tell me how this leads to improving our service I would really aprreciate it!

I'm getting sick of people saying "I'm getting what I paying for".. I'll ask again.. Is my money I'm paying worth less than anyone else's money?

Everyone is allowed to abuse a system and get what they want, Yet I can not get what I want with my money, so can somebody please tell me where can I get money that is worth anything as mine doesn't seem to help jack ****!

I really cant see what good these people are doing.. I'm trying to look at it from everyones point of view and I can understand being upset about what we have because I am also upset. Though I can see telkom checking their systems and going.. STUFF THAT..

When companies make decisions they look at a history of what has happened in the past and decide on what they can do from that. We all know telkom only picks the reports that they like and that can make them more money.. Do any of you really think they will sit back and say.. "OHHHHH look how much these guys are downloading, Lets give them all uncapped services".. Or rather.. "We need to shut this down ASAP.. Who cares if they get upset"

I also can not believe that once we get... if we ever get ... decent caps and international speeds etc, blah blah that these people will stop abusing the system. They will just push harder because now they can get more.. Some people are and always will be selfish bastades who only care about themselves.. That I understand is what life is about.. I'll bet everything I have on that! Even though as explained my money isn't worth anything from everyone elses point of view :(

I also know that everyone has their own point of view, and on some things we will never agree on, Though I try at least and when people do things out of spite that effect us all.. well I'm sorry..

Kalvaer, your blowing this totally out of proportion.

The fact is, there's very few people abusing the system.
Any degredation you may suffer on an ADSL network is definately not down to them, because their connections are only rated at a certain speed.

Don't blame these people for a cr@p expensive service, blame Telkom !

I've got a 10gig connection that I'm paying for.
It's the 8th of the month and I've used 3gig - IOW, it works perfectly for me - 3gig every 10 days.

Why dont we just all agree that its a flawed system? Surely we can do that right?

Agreed! But still dont think its right to screw it up more!

And BB if anyone can tell me then why my international pings shoot from 280ms, to 7k ms, at the exact same time when the P2P folk start bragging about their huge end of the month or beginning of the month downloads/uploads, and prove it to me!!! then I'll shut up

Gonna shut up anyway as its almost weekend and I want to enjoy my gaming with my Nukecap account, and I'd like to keep the respect I have for people here even if some of them hate me now, but I still think its BS and unacceptable

Oh for goodness sake, put a sock in it mate.

If you don't know what your talking about, rather don't. p2p downloads on ADSL ARE THROTTLED - it makes no difference to the overall network because of that fact, please would you try to understand that already ?

These huge downloads people are talking about are the "mad rush" in the last few days of the month and like I said, the most they are going to get is an extra 4gig internationally.

The other huge downloads people are talking about are on Uncapped services, which are seriously throttled and they are downloading a bunch of crud of local DC++ as far as I can tell.

Get your facts straight before pointing fingers.
Our ADSL is NOT effected by p2p users, I repeat, it is NOT effected by p2p users.

Thankyou.

BB I asked many times, and everyone basically told me to **** myself with cocky replies. I never once directed a flame at you, or anyone specific (other than the person who did the 178 gigs). I asked for confirmation and was never given any, other than believe me this is how it works. Sorry I'm the type of person that needs facts to believe something. I've asked for facts and never got any. Though now i'm being told I dont have my facts straight and should shut up?

Thanks bro.. Never expect you to rip me a new one, but thanks none the less

We've been trying to explain to you, but you keep harping on and on and on about it, what do you expect ?

Go and read up about p2p throttling implemented by ISP's

Your looking for a quick answer to your problems by lumping the blame for your network woes on people who download a lot and now you moan at me for "ripping you a new one" because I'm telling you that things are NOt that simple.

Whatever, your WANT to believe it's these people affecting you, so obviously nothing I or anyone else says will deflect you from your belief.

From the looks of this post http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=243903&postcount=1 the days of uncapped local are almost over anyway. So with that said can anyone still say that an individual shouldn't have unshapped p2p? Remember, we're now talking about a finite amount now - 30gb max on the 30gb packages. Only the 3gb ones are still unaffected if the above source is correct.

Ive been watching this thread with interest Im also hooked up constantly through a file sharing program and can tell you without doubt that i have close to double the speed on weekends, into five days of trickle now quite annoying. Are there any port forward settings to help this?
