Hi guys

New here, and new to having ADSL at home.
After checking out the Mybroadband survey a couple months back, i saw Axxess was highly rated.

Trying my hand at downloading (uTorrent), it seems as though the download rate is sitting at 4Kb/s.
Yes, that's 4Kb/s even though I have a 4Mbit/s line and checked it a 100 times via Ookla.

Have any of you had the same issues? Is it that I should rather download in the later parts of the night (I just tried now, a Saturday afternoon at 15:32)

I am on an ucapped 4Mbit/s line if that helpd.

Thanks guys!

As I said, I am a noob at this stuff.....even to the point of trying and failing at using NZB's.

Gaming on Axxess has been very cr*p all day and streaming is below par.

I don't normally have much trouble with their torrents but I'll take a look.

Support is very slow to react to this type of thing.

I had issues the last couple of weeks on an Axxess line and it took two port rebuilds to sort it out. Speedtest was fine on download, but 10Kbps on upload until the first reset, then it appeared fine. Downloads gave trouble until the second reset done by WA who has the data package.

Try the port reset tool on the Axxess CP, if that fails (sometimes it cannot find the port), file a ticket asking them to reset the port.

I don't see a port reset tool.

I did ask one support guy last week to do it and he says he did, but the performance was the same.

My ping is pretty high at the moment but if I switch ISP it all comes right.

open port on your router and enable dht. is has been flaky with torrents for me and sometimes I can't even reach exchanges. even when I was overseas a few years back they were working on a seed rating that throttled me to 40kb/s on public torrents. seedbox or gtfo!

Hey guys, after a little "too-and-fro" with support guys at Axxess, it seems going capped is the best solution. I was informed that there is no shaping/throtting from 00:00 - 07:00 on uncapped, but I never felt that was the case.
I would literally set my downloads for those times and it took FOREVER (throttled down to 20Kb/s if I was lucky).
Having gone capped, my speeds are perfect all the time :)
Also, I realised I only needed 100GB instead of uncapped.....so it works for me!

Ps: thanks for the feedback everyone. I have been travelling so only got to replying now (and I managed to lock my account...damn passwords for everything!)

Yip, home uncapped. That is the issue. All providers throttle you on uncapped. It seems uncapped is the way to go! Saving an additional R40 per month and keeping it to 100GB (50+50 promotion).

My issue is that I was on uncapped......changed to capped and it is literally like having a ferrari on the autobahn instead of a ferrari in Pinelands!

'snip' My ping is pretty high at the moment but if I switch ISP it all comes right.

Same here... I'm also on Uncapped so I get Unshaped, which is crucial for gaming imo.

Axxess and Afrihost trial are giving me 400ms to NA =/ My Openweb Trial is working hundreds (well, 300, but that's about the best I get w/ World of Tanks lol. Strange but true - my FNBConnect account also gives me 300ms but is rather unstable.

I moved because Afrihost are not up to par anymore, but it seems Axxess are in the same boat? Or is it just Seacom?

But at what speed is this 100GB (50+ 50)?

IT doesn't say on Axxess' website.

Axxess, Afrihost, WebAfrica and CrystalWeb capped accounts are at line speed.
Not sure about Mweb/Openweb, though I'd stay away from Openweb.

I'm also having terrible speeds today, upgraded from 4mb to 10mb, and am pretty much getting the same speeds when downloading??
