Bad Driving thread

If its a single carriageway, there is no "giving" way legally, the car behind is legally allowed to pass by crossing over into the oncoming lane, if the lane markings are striped.

I had some idiot throw some marble like things at my car once because I wouldn't move into the emergency lane for him to zoom past. And then some idiot in a tank (Navara) also drive so close to me I got caught in his slip stream because I wouldn't move into the emergency lane too. Both of these idiots don't overtake when the road is clear ahead and overtaking is allowed they expect you to take the risk of damaging your tyres moving over for them.

There is a simple rule. Never drive in such a way that will put you in unnecessary risk

If you are not comfortable moving over into the emergency lane, don't. IF you don't want to drive 120km/h on the highway, don't (but then, drive on the left lane). If you decide to drive slow on the highway, drive in the left most lane (remember the rule, you putting yourself in unnecessary risk if you drive 60km/h in the fast lane.)

Don't sacrifice your safety for someone else's impatience.

Why dont you guys just do this?

Heh, indeed, I do that when required. But come to think of it, the other box probably doesn't give a sh@t what you think of him.

In the last month or so, I have driven almost the entire breadth of South Africa, and have come to the conclusion that generally South African drivers are inconsiderate... most of the posts in this thread proving that.

I don't know if I completely agree that generally South Africans are inconsiderate drivers, I think there is a minority that think the road belongs to them, they just stand out so much that it looks like the majority.

Had it again this morning, with some idiot in a clapped out old Toyota Corolla thinking he could own the fast lane on the M4 North in Durban.. doing 70 - 80, and refusing to move out of the way when a faster vehicle came up behind him... hell I even got a filthy look when I passed him on the left after flashing him twice.

I'm not sure whether its being inconsiderate or just being totally clueless about their surroundings.

Everyday I see people on the road whom you can clearly see have no idea about what the hell is going around them. They are just so absorbed in their own little worlds that they have no clue about those around them.

It has happened countless times where I approach a car from behind and sit there waiting for the other driver to move over when they one day feel like it. When the driver eventually spots me he/she jerks their car to the left in shock as they never saw me sitting there for ages already.

So in many case I think that it may just be total ignorance than that of inconsideration.

I have a vid or two on youtube where i recorded some bad driving.... If I wasn't too lazy to pull the sd card out and edit every bad driver, I would have hundreds already ;)

That was a very narrow miss. I have the same problem, I have a couple hundred videos with examples of bad driving and too lazy to edit them.

:D Well done for not letting rip with a string of expletives while your kid was in the car with you....

Yip... I took the video to the security company and complained. They said they would have a disciplinary with the driver... but who knows if they did or not...

Kinda was too shocked to swear ;) Happens so fast, but I tell you what, my Kia Sportage stops bloody nicely! no drift, dead straight. Was impressed.

I recently changed my car DVR, so the quality is not as good video wise, but it now has GPS & g-force data logging, also a second cam facing the driver (very wide angle) that gives a good view of sides & behind the vehicle.

Since Ive just sat in the traffic for 2 hours to get home (on a trip that normally takes 30 mins) due to a massive accident on the N3 in Durban

I have two general shout outs to certain groups of drivers...

The first one goes to the impatient prats who think they are better than everyone else and push into the queue, the rest of us have been sitting in the queue so you can wait as well... you just screw everything up and are a big part of why the traffic gets so damn bad.

The second should out goes to a very very very special group of people who whom I shall henceforth refer to as PLD's (Po3s like Drivers), when an ambulance comes rushing up behind you, get the fek out of the way.. don't just cruise along in the lane like you don't have a large vehicle behind you with red lights and sirens blaring... I hope you knobheads are not the reason someone dies because you held an ambulance up for 30 seconds or a minute because you thought you were more important....

One word

Taxi's

Tonight, they oddly enough were not the worst culprits... it was all the prats in their flashy big SUV's and such... you know, the ones who have so much debt that the world owes them a favour.

SLS 228 GP, silver opel corsa, corner of macdonalds in Sandton, bypassing (on the left) the traffic in two lanes waiting to turn right from Grayston drive. Turned right over a red light, while also not in a proper position to see oncoming traffic. Friday afternoon 5 July 2013 ~ 14:20
