Bad Latency on MWEB 4mb uncapped

Funny thing is that speednet gives good results!!!!

Well, speed and latency are rather different things, although the 'bandwidth-delay product' can be an issue (on 4Mbps ADSL). See long, fat, networks (LFN). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_fat_network

Your specific case does not seem to be an example of the regional/nationwide congestion that we had last week, which was the impetus for this thread.

Ok Gordon, I have had line reset by Telkom and also referred it to MWEB Rep, who is investigating see other posts on this forum. The line is very stable no CRC errors using a billion 7402g modem/router. Capri is a fairly new suburb so don't think lines are a problem (but who knows) will just persever. When I download Updates etc I get clos to max ie 425.

Just run tracert again and now get these figure which are acceptable. It the fluctuations that confuse me:):)

Congestion can be like that!? There may be no problem with your exchange, but somewhere closer to Wynberg (big exchange). Possibly Telkom microwave repeaters are struggling with the weather. LOL ;-)

Capri/Fishoek is quite far away from the latest fibre-optic loops (Claremont, etc). See Dark Fibre Africa coverage charts:

I am on the Sunnydale (fish hoek) exchange

Hi All,

For those still experiencing out of the ordinary local latency, please keep posting traceroutes (to mybroadband.co.za) also indicating the region or suburb you're in. If you get a chance also try to sabela.saix.net (server sits on the other side of our peer links) e.g.

Any additional info will assist in diagnosing.

MWB.

Local latency has been fine for weeks, but suddenly it has gotten very slow this evening. I'm in Kenilworth, Cape Town.
