Does anyone know why the ms jumps from ~70 to ~370? It does this with all local sites.. I can't even play games anymore. I sent a email to mweb querying it but they are taking long to reply. Is there a setting i am missing?

Bad Latency to Local Servers on MWEB UNCAPPED

Also been having the same issue, from what I can see it seems be a bottleneck at a telkom server - I have found the same after running multiple tracerts....

I phoned telkom and asked to reset ports etc, it hasn't helped. But it seems to be an issue with MWEB Uncapped users as far as I can tell.

I'm also hoping for a speedy solution to this problem, because I can't play any games on local servers.

It seems like a peering issue between mweb and telkom.

Probably a issue on telkoms side. Since they always have problems with peering

Phone telkom/mweb, whoever you pay your line fees to and ask them to refresh your port. Sorted it out for me.

I did that and it did nothing for me, still the same problem.

my ping was always around 50 and download speeds of 3.4mb, tonight my ping is 333 and download speed is .26!!! wtf? (speedtest.net)

A buddy that lives two blocks from me, also on MWeb 4MB uncapped, is getting 50ms ping times, while I'm getting 300ms+ ping times to local sites. The differences between us? His IP starts 40.x.x.x, mine 41.x.x.x. His ADSL usage is 2GB, mine 15GB.

My guess is that MWeb has shunted us to a lower bandwidth link...

Can you ask them to change your IP or something. It seems to vary within a small band.

What doesn't make sense to be is the excessive ping to local servers - I get maybe shaping our p2p connections over a certain amount of usage, but the local connection should remain the same

This has nothing to do with the amount of gb's you have download. Surely it is just a problem and will be sorted soon.

I doubt if mweb was worried about the gb's used that it would make your local ping sky rocket to 350 like mine has done.

Yeah it's more likely a technical problem somewhere down the line, though annoying as it is they will fix it.....I hope....

I have a capped account on FNB Connect and Mweb.Downloads on Mweb are faster but ping is horrific. On Fnb download is terrible but ping not so bad.Spmeone p$$ed Telkom off?

im probably way off here, but i find this line interesting

5 72 ms 65 ms 62 ms tengig-0-0-0-0-12.vic-up-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.241]

the next one is:

6 376 ms 367 ms 374 ms rrba-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.8.249]

perhaps there is an issue with the 10gb testing? noticing the tengig part of the dns name. bottleneck that needs to be sorted out or something.

my trace was fine:

6 37 ms 37 ms 37 ms rrba-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.8.249]

which could mean that there is faulty hardware or something. i dont know. i think i should stick to programming.

How long they take is the question. I've raised some support tickets early last month which they haven't even started to look at.

At least your latency didn't go up to 1800ms like I had on my OpenWeb account in the beginning of last month. Fortunately that only lasted a single morning & afternoon :)

I think if you want better latencies you should stick with 384/512kbps ADSL accounts.
