Hey guys,

I started exercising again a few weeks ago.

Today I purchased Some Whey, Creatine and a Pre-workout (320mg Caffiene)

5 minutes after I started drinking one scoop that was mixed with 500ml water I had the following side effects for about 10 - 15 mins:

-Shortness of Breath
-Lungs felt tight and i struggled breathing for a while.
-My ears turned red and was super hot.
-a Stranger red rash appeared in the fold area of my inner fore arm but disappeared after a while.

Is this normal?

I am using Evox Alpha Pre-Surge Extreme.

Three coffee cups worth of caffeine in a single serving.
HYPER-ENERGY, STACK SURGE-M-VOL, STACK CREA-SURGE LOAD, FRUCTOSE.

Why bother with this stuff, seriously? Is it not enough to train & eat well - especially just when you're starting again? Stop using it if you're reacting to it.

I'm a skinny guy and I want to train hard and get bigger. I'm using it cause I understand it helps you train harder and go heavier.

Its not normal, lol? But it happened to me when i took a pre after a very long time. Drop the dosage? When you first start training, a pre is the only reason you go to gym, lol. I personally take it when i really need it now. Dnt depend on it.

So its not a supplement that you have to take every day?

I will cut the dose in half tomorrow.

also I mix a teaspoon of Creatine with one scoop of whey after my workout. is it fine to use that daily?

It says that there is creatine inside the pre workout? how can I tell how much is inside? is it necessary to take additional creatine?

Im also on creatine. Read the label, it will tell you how much creatine it has, if it doesnt say so, ill stay away from supps like that. You need to know what u taking. I prefer taking creatine by itself, so you can take the right dosage. Guys talk about front loading creatine. ie taking a higher dosage for the first two weeks or so, then going on a normal dosage. The amount you take depends alot on your weight and body. Please drink alot of water.

Do not take more than what you need? And what is specified. More supplements will not give you more gains. Supplements help,, but so does eating and training. Too much of anything is bad for you, so gauge how your body reacts to it and increase and decease your intake.

I personally dnt take the numbers too seriously but train hard and going strong at 34 :)

I know a couple people who had some serious had-to-go-to-hospital problems because of prolonged pre-workout usage. Start slow with creatine, bcaa's and l-glutamine; it's enough to make a difference and it's all very safe.

Then you start with half the recommended dose in 500ml of water.
Eat a bannana or small portion of plain yoghurt to line the tummy.

This is the Pre-workout I got.

Yas i feel like a poephol...

Honestly I did not read all the crap that they put inside so I have no idea what half the stuff does.

I just thought:

Pre-workout - lots of energy and you can train longer and harder without getting fatigeud

Whey Protein - Grow muscles quicker and bigger

Creatine - Grow muscle faster

going to take a teaspoon tomorrow (5g) not the 20g scoop that is recommended.

Hahaha, The supplement store is like a candy shop. The first step is to realize. Growing is not quick unless you taking juice, even then you have to train hard. If you want to get bigger, the best way is to eat more good food and supplement with whey protein when u cant eat.

If you want more energy while training, i suggest sipping on Bcaa's while training. Creatine will not grow muscles, training will grow it, creatine will feed it. I honestly dont know it all, i read alot and figure out what works for me. Dnt get caught up with all the supps, get to the gym constantly first and train hard.

"You have to earn the right to use supplements."

This is the advice Jeff Cavalier's (Athlean-X) brother gave him when he started training and wondered about supplement use.

The truth is you don't need any of these marketed supplements (especially if you're a beginner and your next pay cheque doesn't depend on how hard you hit the gym).

Just eat smart and train hard (every other day). Simple.

Wow what people will consume to get stronger these days...I have gotten stronger purely on consuming raw milk and eggs as my protein intake. For pre workout healthy alternatives would be dates and banana mixed in a shake (raw milk).

But coming back to the symptoms I had? does that sound alarming or is that just what happens?

That's very common when you first start using pre-workout. Sometimes it gets better (tolerance) or sometimes it gets worse (allergic?) depending on the person. The redness/hotness is from the beta-alanine.

All in all, pre-workouts help you get in an extra rep or two. They aren't necessary by any means, but I like to use them when I struggle to get out of bed into the gym.

The fact that you have to ask this question is frightening.

I called Ascendis Health just now (They own EVOX) and the lady told me its normal that this happened, my body is just not use to it and I should try halving the dose.

A common side effect of pre-workout is itchiness and a tingling feeling around the face and arms etc... That wouldn't alarm me all that much. But your reaction seems much more extreme so I can't comment. Perhaps lower the dosage and see?

Personally I've had little results with pre-workout barring the first day or two of trying it (Probably placebo). And I push myself quite hard sometimes. I only take a protein scoop and creatine around 3 or 4 times a week at most currently. If you're fairly new and depending on what exactly you're doing I'd recommend building your conditioning, mobility, nutrition and routine first and only consider supplements at a later stage. As long as you're getting good nutrition and rest in the beginning the added stuff will likely be a waste - but I'm no expert.

@Random Hero : I can understand the desire to beef up. But don't do it by messing with a normal healthy diet and a normal (moderate) exercise routine. Rather work on your self-acceptance. If you try to abnormally (for your body type) beef yourself up with dicey supplements and special foods you put yourself on a path that avoids the real internal work you need to do to find acceptance and peace. Exercise and eat normally. Rather beef yourself up internally. My R0.02.
