Bad side effects from Pre-Workout

Well when I started on 1 September, I was weak and I could not even lift 10s properly.

I am now dumbbell pressing 14Kgs for this week and next week before I level up again.

So I am going heavier. When will I see changes in my body?

Packing on Muscle and size takes a lot longer than packing on Fat. Don't expect any significant changes to your appearance in the short term. Especially if you are a lean person by nature.

I don't know how much you know or have asked around at gym, about exercising to gain mass. But you should be doing heavier weights and lower repetitions per exercise, as a general rule. So if you are doing dumbell presses with 14kg, and getting 3 sets of 12 reps, then go to 16kg rather and try for 8 reps. That sort of thing.

There is much more science to it, and much more nuance than can be put into a short forum post. But the general rule is that for every exercise you would have a 1 rep max weight. That means a weight that you can just manage to do a single rep of, and if you tried for another immediately afterwards, you would fail it. The closer you are to that 1 rep max weight, the more you will be bulking up.
It is still good to do lower weights and more reps from time to time, but in your case, you already have the lean look, you want to work on bulk a little more.

It is always good to start off with your first set of any exercise, being a high rep, manageable weight though. Just to warm your body up to the motion and make sure you are feeling it before diving in to a heavier weight.
I worked in a gym a long time ago now, and I remember guys walking in and trying to hit 3 sets of 3 rep max bench press as their first exercise. Spotting those guys is not fun at all.

So, you got the mass gainer Random Hero?

No lol I'm listening to you guys. Also thank you for the advice you gave Soultrax.

Everyone has different advice. Do cardio. don't do cardio. do heavy weights and low reps. do lighter weights and many reps. Damn...

Anyway, I have some great news, and I'm not going to bump an old thread for this. But I got a very decent Job with an international corporate! :) So I will at least get money coming in by end of October! Now I can work on creating a proper diet and put the supps aside for a while!

I need to make a diet plan. I am skinny, have a bit of fat left. I can feel that I am getting hungrier now a days and I want to eat more. but I do not want to eat shyte. yesterday I made hamburgers again, after dodging bread for 2-3 weeks. Ithink my dinner meal is fine, as well as breakfast.

Breakfast 07h30: Cup of oats, spoon of Peanutbutter and a scoop of whey.
Dinner: 19h00: 2 Chicken breasts, Broccoli and cheese.

Need to figure out what else to eat during the day!

I was the same weight as you were and I am way taller than you. That partial diet I posted pushed me to over 90kg... Try it for a while and see how it goes. I will try and locate the entire diet for you if you want.

And congrats on the new job, happy for you man.

That would be great man! I can actually afford real food now and I would very very much appreciate it.

This is my lunch now. a pack of noodles, can of tuna, just a bit of mayo and shiraka sauce. I will also nuke some eggs in the microwave before gym.

Ok I cant find that specific diet but you can give this one a go, its from the same person and I will always trust his recommendations.

meal 1 6egg whites + 2 full eggs + 100g oats

meal 2 60g whey protein + 30g peanut butter

meal 3 200g steak and 30g almonds

meal 4 1.5tins of tuna + 80g oats + 30raisin

meal 5 60g whey protein + 50g glucose/vitargo/dextrose

meal 6 : 200g chicken + 30g almonds.
Meal 4 is your pre workout and 5 your post workout.

Try this for a couple of weeks.

As a beginner, it can be daunting, as there is a ton of information out there, and a lot of it is very conflicting too. And most of it will kind of get you to your goals. Having said that, the most important thing is consistency. Find a plan and stick to it. After a few weeks, if you are not happy, adjust, and go from there. Don't let excuses get in your way. It's easy now because you are not working full time. Throw in stress, a hectic social schedule and other demands on your time, and you will see how hard it can be to balance things.

I get a sense from you that you are impatient, and expecting results quickly. You will see some gains in the first few weeks, but they will be small. This is a lifestyle, and not just a quick fix to get where you want to be.

The exercising is the easy part. Having the self control to eat and prepare what you have to is far more difficult imo. I would use a program already set out to remove a lot of the thinking (which makes things easier and less time consuming for me). Then I just have to do.

Edit:

There you go. Eedubz has given you a nice framework. Copy what other successful people do, and you will be golden.

Awesome I saved that from iDubbz, will print it out and stick it to my fridge.

Do you guys cook meats in advance? Would it be safe to cook out my weekday meals on say a Sunday night? and keep it in the fridge until Friday?

I am going to commit to this lifestyle now. I want to be healthy, fitter, stronger, faster and get my confidence back.

Life gave me a curve ball and all my plans have been completely derailed. I thought I had the best girl ever. i was planning on getting engaged in November, but that all crashed down. I still feel k@k about it every other day, I need to build up new social groups and rekindle relationships with friends who I lost touch with so life is in a weird place right now for me, but meeting new poeple every now and then which is nice (I actually want to make a thread about this, I feel that a lot of the people I meet now are just superficial relationships, not sure if this is normal but still analyzing things{Perhaps just overthinking}).

But anyways, I think I have been getting great tips on relationships, health, career and lifestyle from the community here and I am very greatful for it.

Yes, you can prepare meals in advance, store them in containers and freeze them. Check out Pintrest for some meal prep ideas as well.

As for the friendship thing, that's rough. It's far harder to make friends as an adult than a teenager. Adults tend to be very cliquey. Don't let it derail you though. Best way to make friends is to probably start doing some kind of sport. You could try joining a running club. I find that these groups are open to new people. Otherwise I suppose at gym you could strike up a conversation with the guys around you. I have made a few friendships at my gym, but it did take a while (although, I wasn't really trying). Another thing is to not turn down anything social, even if you don't feel like it. Saying yes more will open up doors.

That's true, I have a couple of friends. but they are either married or in serious relationships, or geeks who do not go out ever, I practically have to beg them and I'm over 27 years olds behaving like old people. so yeah my network has shrunken since moving to jozi, I have met some people at the gym, actually going to try this dudes routine out with him from next week, also joined 2 church groups. But yeah I am looking for a sports team to join as well like cricket or something.

I am sure there are a lot of guys on this forum that play action cricket. I'll ask some of my mates too.

Edit: nm, the group I was thinking about was for a specific company.

Try Last man Standing.

Nice social cricket on Sundays!

Believe it or not, my answer is still the same as when you asked this exact question last Tuesday, 19th September...
Cook on Sunday, put Monday-Wednesday meals in fridge, Thursday-Friday meals in freezer.
