Bed in a box?

@RedViking How is the Sloom Mattress treating you? I believe you have it for over a week now. I bought a Cloud nine mattress, but are really curious how people find the sloom

@Sicarius404 , first week I have not been impressed. The medium firmness is too soft and the next firmness level I find too hard. I have it now on firm (which is the next level after medium) and will keep it here for a couple of weeks to see how it goes. But I feel like there should be another thin layer of softer support. Unfortunately they seem to pair the 4 layers in sets of two. So you don't have the option of moving one of the less former layer to the top, almost like a mattress topper. A mattress topper won't work though as then my wife's side will be too soft.

The medium firmness level you also tend to sag into the mattress and wake up feeling like you getting out of a hole. So I'll only recommend it if you want something firm. The layer combination doesn't make sense. I understand why they pair it, otherwise there might be too much movement between the layers and the Jenga bed will collapse.

I did sleep well last night, besides anxiety and stress, so I think I need to give it a couple of weeks.

It sleeps hot. Perfect for colder climates. But there were one or two evenings when it was very hot that the heat from the mattress wasn't helping. Cooler days are amazing.

My wife has been comfortable and no complaints from her side.

I do like the soft edges, most mattresses have some sort of edge support and it hurts my feet / arms. I do like the fact that the left and right side is separate.

If I'm still not comfortable after the next 2 weeks I'm going to ask sloom what can be done to allow for a better combination of firmness level adjustment.

@RedViking I was also on the edge where the firm is too firm and medium is too soft, I just saw that the Mattress looks nice and looks fairly easy to keep clean etc...

I have not yet received the Mattress I am still waiting for delivery. They said it should be next week somewhere. It did feel nice in the store, but will see how it when I get it. Really hoping that it is nice, because most bed stores' return policy is bad.

Will update the post once I had the bed for a week or two. My plan is to use this bed now then in a few years time get a new one and move this one to the spare room.

This is really the problem. I will update again once I've given it a couple of weeks. If you have been sleeping on rubbish for decades, it will take more than just a couple of weeks to adjust as your whole posture is changing (for the better).

Update on Sloom Mattress.

I sent sloom a message that I am not happy with the comfort level, their only suggestion was to get the mattress topper. For the Q-XL this comes in at an additional R3200, which I don't have and is not keen on spending. R11 000 Mattress. R2000 Bed Frame (Forty Wink), R3200 (Mattress Topper) = R16000+. Something to keep in mind. I tried to see if there is a bed I can test to compare to the sloom and haven't found something I am happy with, with the Cloud Nines available here too much on the firm side.

So, I decided to give medium a try again and turned the bottom pair around and have been sleeping comfortable for the past month.

Setting different firmness levels for each side is great. I haven't noticed a difference where the two sides join.
I like that the edges of the bed is soft.

The final verdict is that the sloom is great for testing and having various firmness levels to try if you are in an area that doesn't have many options in Cloud Nines or similar. However, it comes at a steep price, compared to something like a cloud nine with a much longer track record.

Foam also gets pretty hot in the summer and the sloom doesn't have the blue gel or fancy mushroom fairy dust or whatever some mattresses advertise to keep things cool.

EDIT: RV those mattresses are supposed to be on a slatted base to allow for air circulation

I'm pleasantly surprised that bed frame is strong enough and will look at one myself. I was going to get one from Naturelle Beds knowing that thing is built really well but jeez R3 800 + R1 200 transport really burns my bum pocket.

Yeah but that is an extra R5000+. I'm gonna make one.
