Buying a bed

Best is to test it. If you can Cloud Nine, excellent reputation.

If you can't test a bed, get a Sloom and make use of the 100 day testing. Can't return the base though. Sloom is expensive compared to similar priced cloud nine.

Cloud Nine will usually includes the gel toppers for a cooler sleep, and a quality base.

Although if you fat buy carefully. Even then, mattress won't last as long. Being fat puts a premium and shorter life on everything.
DO NOT test it in store. Its frowned upon... especially with Op's problem ...

Go to Dial a bed and negotiate, there is bug margin beds because they see only every 10 years or so an it high volume low value items to transport.

There is room to negotiate at Dial a bed, if you think used car salesman are tough negotiators you're in for treat.

I think a lot of people don't realise that you can negotiate at them.
Most bed stores are negotiable, saved some rands recently with our bed purchase with some negotiating.

What do you guys think?

don't get a plush... don't be like me...

I went to a shop, lay on it and thought fml this is the best in the world! I tried a medium (or whatever is one firmer) and though no way the plush is king. Yeah lesson learnt the plush is great, its like a cloud but you sleep like a banana and it's a bit warm (memory foam) Rather get one firmer and then you can add a mattress topper to change the firmness if you're not happy.

You can't make a soft mattress firm but you can make a firm mattress soft.

I need a new mattres too, I think.
Got one of these Kooi mattresses a bunch of years back... I tink it's the firm version.

It worked great and I loved it for years, then suddenly two weeks ago I started waking up with the most atrocious upper back pain in the night/early morning hours I've ever had. I just assumed it stress during sleep or something, but I don't know anymore.

It goes away almost completely within the first 30 mins once I wake up.... is that normal?
I could sleep on beer cans and a mieliesak in the past, now suddenly I'm dealing with this?!?!

The only thing I can think of is that the foam on the Kooi got to a point suddenly where my spine is just bent too abnormally due to the slight concave area forming at your torso area due to it getting old, and that somehow that firmness combined with that slight curve is enough to apparently send you into the abyss of backpain.

Do you rotate the matrass once in a while?

Could also be health related like kidneys. Delay your morning urination and see if the pain continues until after you've urinated.

Yeah I did, I wanted to do it again last night but I realized there's no position left that's not been through the ringer over the years, it's not a pothole or anything but the curve is there, and you can't flip it over like some cheaper mattresses it seems.
I think tonight I'm actually going to flip it and sleep on the hard side I'm not supposed to, it can't be worse than how I felt at 4AM this morning.

I guess it's time.... I'm just weirded out by how quickly it happened.
Thinking now, maybe it did actually happen more gradually than I thought. Been having recurring upper back and shoulder blade pains during the day in the past months and each time I just assume it's stress.

If you have a SO make them sleep on the couch and try sleeping in the middle of the bed for a night and see how that goes. Otherwise check my edit for kidneys. Could be kidney stones or something else as well.

Don't do internet shopping for beds. It's one of the things you need to test, and even then it might feel lekker in store but fscks up your back once you've actually slept on it.

Don't look at a brand, look for a store with a decent return/exchange policy. Many will do it provided you use a mattress protector...

Jirre do they use fermented foamy penguin pelts from the Anatarctic to make these things?

There goes my budget and my plans to do other stuff this month.
Also, "cloud nine" ... you mean one of the 500 types of Cloud Nines?

They should just rename it to "500 Clouds" then shove a bunch of dies in your hand that you can roll to pick one.

Bollocks. Same beds have different names depending on the store and Google reverse image search is perfect for that.
You're saying what I just said, which you conveniently left out - don't look at the brand.

And it doesn't change the point anyway. You buy something from a forum recommendation and then you're sitting at the physio for the next 2 years. But who cares, as long as backstreetchop pushed his opinion and someone listened to it...

Any one of them will be good. Just don’t cheap out and buy according to your budget.

Try a change of pillow first to rule that out...

Interesting ... chatting with the AI bot brings up some interesting points about foam mattresses and their failure characteristics.
Pretty much confirms my suspicion.

Checked mine now and the sagging isn't visibly an issue really, I think it's just a sudden loss of support, the indentation is there when I wake up a goes away during the day, so little bounce back...
And when you consider this humidity and weather changes the past few weeks it's not hard to imagine why it feels "sudden"

So I went to mattress warehouse and the CloudNine was pretty dang hard not gonna lie. Idk maybe its just me. I did lay on this bed that had Cheslin Kolbes face on it and it was nice but it was 20k.
they had an olive brand too which was nice but only 9k so i worry about the quality. it had 130kg weight limit per person and im under that, but i mean really. i guess you wanna be as close to under that as possible.

So turns out the brand with Cheslin Kolbes face on is called Kooi.
I did some research.
I cant do foam methinks
foam locks in heat and i live in africa

springs are also better for sex so when me and the whalepaca get it on it helps.
