Best Decent Android TV Box

No they slow. Stop making excuses. They are functional, but they need more ram.
Don't bother. These people prefer this:

There we go goes, lets go back
My god how did you remember these units??????

Reviving this thread again, does anyone have experience with the Mediabox Rocket?
I am in the market and want to confirm that it will do HDMI pass-through, so that I get surround audio to my receiver from the box, running Netflix/Prime etc.

Here's what NAG said about it in their review...

The Rocket also supports 4K viewing, which is fantastic for watching series and movies. The Dolby Atmos support means you get great sound, too. If you aren’t using HDMI, there are Optical and 3.5mm audio ports at the back for connecting different sound systems to the device.

Speaking of ports, the Mediabox Rocket comes with a MicroSD slot, a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, an ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a USB-C port, along with two audio jacks. The USB-C port doesn’t provide power, so you will need to connect a separate 12V power supply.

From the Amazon SA listing...

Thanks for the replies. According to specs, the Maverick also supports Dolby Digital, though not Atmos. And I tested it, it does not pass surround sound through the hdmi. Hence why I ask if anyone ever tried it with the rocket

I've also been looking into these:
HOMATICS BOX-R 4K PLUS - https://www.dune-hd.com/products/homatics-box-r-4k-plus
and
Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe - https://www.mecool.com/products/mecool-km2-plus-deluxe

both Amlogic S905X4 Quad Core ARM Cortex-A55 processors, 4GB DDR4 ram, gigabit LAN, wifi6, all certifications in place, dolby atmos and vision supported and licenced, HDR10+ etc.
Mecool only has usb 2.0 ports, while the other has a usb 3.0 port and usb-c, that makes large file content at 4k possible from a HDD.

Though I am struggling to find local suppliers for these

I have the Netogy Nova Android box and it DEFINITELY passes-through Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound to my 15-year old SONY BDV-E280 Blu-Ray Home Theatre System when watching Netflix / YouTube / Prime Video or Disney+.

Try using another HDMI cable and then also check the various surround sound audio settings for your receiver to see if there's something that may be set incorrectly, preventing it from using the pass-through feed for the HDMI audio.

if you do find suppliers for those - i would be very interested in that Mecool - i used the regular vanilla KM2 a while back and it was pretty decent - this pro deluxe model is pretty state of the art IMHO and it contains everything i would be looking for that makes a TV box not just a TV box but also into a complete media player - i was also looking for it for a long time - the guys who gave me the regular KM2 have said that the SA suppliers are now different and the new guys no longer supply them this brand

I was looking at the Mecool MK7 and Kickpi boxes on TakeAlot, and almost pulled the trigger.
Xiaomi has kind of fcked up the 5.1 surround on the Mi Box 4 2nd Gen, and since the "upgrade" to GoogleTV () I became annoyed with it.

Basically what I'm saying is, I'm following this thread now

I did see that dune hd has quite an extensive range of products!
There are atleast 2 different versions of the homatics, but the dune hd version looks superior, especially software wise.
They do have a distributor in SA, prices are quite high though

It does have optical, as well as usb3.0, wifi6 and gigabit lan.
Its actually exactly the same as the homatics, built by the same factory.
