Best FREE internet Security

McAfee is no better than Norton. It's a resource hog, and doesn't detect rootkits very well. I don't think it features a registry startup scan either. Sad really, as it comes with a pretty hefty price tag. :(

One word... NOD32

So which one is then the lesser evil of the whole bunch. So pay big bucks and get nailed or use a free one and get nailed. So the best really is having several programs protecting your system. Yes yes I hear you so then what do you want ?????? :sick: :sick:

Damned if you do and damned if you dont-
clients think you install anti virus and nothing will get thru- ever- and do not try and tell them otherwise -

The best way out if you get nailed by the noenoes is to have a system that has all versions of the best and not so best of all the ANTI what what installed. Now take the infested disk that does not want to boot at all or what ever and install it in this PC. Now scan it with ever ANTI tool you have and clean it. 99.999% of the time you will recover. I have done it myself. ;)

All these products only go so far, and the rest it up to the user - common sense when it comes to suspicious emails and obviously avoiding the internet ghettos:D

How much of pc resources does running two or more of these av, fw, asw etc products use up?

NEVER use more than one AntiVirus or Firewall at the same time. They will conflict and provide less protection, not more. Running 2 or more Antispyware programs however, is a good thing and I recommend it.

For the #1 Internet Security Solution, buy BitDefender v10. ;)

That is probably your WORST form of protection. :rolleyes: I've explained it a few posts earlier. ;)

I didn't mean 2 AVs or 2 FWs etc--> I mean't a combination of different programs 1AV, 1FW, 1ASW, 1 System Monitor. I think Csnoopy probably meant the same:)

I ran AVG Professional, NOD32 and Kaspersky without any conflicts on my server... :rolleyes: The only conflicts I had was when I installed Avast as well (it doesn't like Kaspersky) but with that gone things have returned to normal :cool:

So rather say they "might" conflict and provide less protection :D

Yes they were. No I didn't. Believe it or not ;) No conflicts, no crashes, no decreased performance (as far as I could tell, it's a file server :D) and it all worked brilliantly :)

Ever scanned for malware? It's usually the most common cause for a slow PC. Oh, and your graphics card has nothing to do with CPU speed. ;)

Got this AVirus called Panda with a PCFormat a short while back. wtf? is it any good...i havent bought it, the trial has expired and it wont update further. I know nothing of it other than it has blocked quite a bit and seems to have a firewall included asking permission for certain prgrams to access internet and vice versa.

But there is no mention of it anywhere. Im thinking of uninstalling and installing AVG tho

I'd rather go for AVG if I were you. :p Panda is not a bad program, but it doesn't prove good with heuristics and is a bit of a resource hog. It can slow down your PC faster than malware itself. :D
