best PC for 20K?

I would say the Q9550 & Q9650 looks like a good compromise to the i7 940 when you need to start pinching pennies.

I suppose you all know about the law of diminishing returns...

AMD right now does not even feature & I have only used AMD cpu up until I got my first Intel Q6600.

Will leave this alone as most people can see the biased amd fan boi's a mile away :).

/smiles and waves :p

 Sorry, but point def goes to Qwiksilver. He made a point, you point is just Qoute on "kuk" Quote off

My Point is also, even the E8600 comes very close to the i7 920, allthough there is not really a big price gap. The Point is just, that a Dual Core comes to almost the same gaming performance as the i7, and still, your Eye wont see a difference. Guaranteed. Working wise the i7 will take full advantage of its cores. So, it depends what he wants to do with it. My statement still stands, The Phenom II 940 will do the same job as the i7, working and gaming wise. And please, that fps difference is not noticeable when you are gaming.

Like I said before. If you not short on cash, gor for the biggest i7 and plug in 2x Gtx 260's or 4870's and enjoy full on fps over 100.

And again, Im not a AMD Fan Boy. I just think price for value, the amd it is.
Tell him to get the amd and once his rig is up and running, he invites us all to a lan and sponsors (difference from the i7 and amd) the beers and chops :D

Smile and wave :p

Blog i have never said that i7 is the best gaming solution but quik recommends AMD without knowing what the machine is for, i say if you can afford to go i7 do because you there is nothing you cannot do in a hurry, how does quik know what these guys want to do coding, video editing, graphic stuff etc he does not and just says buy amd even though people can clearly afford the fastest solution and that is what irritates me.

Value for money sure amd is a winner but if you have the cash for the best why settle for value for money?

personally i use my pc for gaming and work and if i had 20k to blow i would not look at value for money option i would look at the best and fastest solution for my 20k which is not amd.

i was thinking the same thing:cool:

Understand what you are saying.

Same here, if I had the cash, yes, the I7 it is. But to be anest, 20k is much for a pc. If cash was not an issue, why not get the i7 extreme then? I just think he needs to know what he wants to do with it, so he can get the best suited for his needs. So what is the man going to do with it? Perhaps he bought a pc already and we are still flamming about amd/intel fan boy sh$t. Hehe

I would rather stick to the amd (performance diff wont be noticable) and get a Blu Ray player so that he can use his 23inch HD to the max. Otherwise he might aswell just get a 22inch non hd and invest more in cpu and gpu.

But why are we going on like this. in every forum if intel/amd or nvidia/ati hits the the talk - fanboy alarm it is :D

Fact is - the wealthy buys Intel - the I spend wise and have same performance buys AMD :D

Duck and run ;)

Nope because amd fanboi's are annoying, they do not have a good product and still push amd :p, the core 2 range is the same price as the new amd's :).

Anyways i don't care to be honest, just wanna get one of those damn 23" monitors :(, came out 2 weeks after i bought my second 22" grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Wow - Dont care about the AMD or Intel Flaming ... Just wanted to say that I was lucky enough to get the 23inch Full HD at work. What a screen !

Where's the clapping, jiving smilies when you need them.

That's the best frigging comment in this whole thread :D

what foolishness!
Problem with AMD investment now is he'll buy a aM2+ CPU that works on DDR2. But 940 is likely it for AM2+, the highend parts are AM3 which is DDR3 and will not take AM2+ CPUs. So with 20K to spend you want to advise him into a dead end? :/

If you said, high end AM3 platform with DDR3 say with 955 CPU maybe but that CPU is not out to retail yet and it'll be months.

Get i7 920, sure Q9450 wins some benchmarks but then again original PhenomX4 9850 is faster than C2Q 9770 in COD4, but that's one game and can't use that to invalidate the other 100 tests the Phenom X4 9850 losses out in

If you can get a i7 920 and some nice 1333 ram. Good system ;)

If he currently has a Q9450 and was thinking of upgrading to i7 then it would probably be a waste of money, but now he wants a new pc and is prepared to pay, so obviously i7 is they way. Period!

Whats the performance difference between 1333 and 1600?

This is the second G.Skill memory kit we are reviewing and it's hard to not be impressed. We do face one dilemma though, we find it very hard to justify the extra money you have to pay for high-frequency memory, as in the end the overall performance of the PC will not be much higher. In fact even if you compare 1333 MHz memory towards 2133 MHz as we tested today, you need to synthetically measure the performance difference.

Guru 3d article on g-skill 2133 memory.
