BEWARE!!! SA Customs iPad Thieves!

Sorry to hear that I had exactly same problem last year but it was with my Iphone 3gs,It came from Australia ,it got delayed and it took 16 days to reach me and when it arrived i never suspected anything but got shock of my life got an empty box with packing materials in it after paying 730 rand customs and handling fees to damn couriers TNT,It had the same problem it said Iphone in the way bill i tried my best to find the thieves but never got any help from courier company only luck I had was I bought it from Ebay using Paypal so after all emails to sender and sending back empty box to seller I got my money back (still lost 1200)in exchange rates.I fought for my customs paid from TNT and got it after 2 months.i find that if the way bill clearly states Ipad or iphone or any costly electronics its the courier company staff they steel it.
Funny thing is that i recieved my Ipad through post office after it was send through USPS and it took 1 month to reach me due to christmas holidays it came without any problems and i paid least customs duty for it ,the invoice just said cumputer parts, think thats the reason

Shocking, I have learnt my lesson. Not using ANY courier company here ever again. Seems to me they are the problem.

How do you know the seller didn't steal them, good motivation not to insure it. I mean its a lot of money.

The same guy I always get from he"s an honest bloke. Package weight was over 1KG when sent aswell, wen i got it was more like 200 grams

They know they can sell it! :/ Makes me mad! Wish you luck sorting it out dude

Thanks, I hope they do try sell it actuli ! That way the guy who buys it is ganna most probably put a sim in and the IMEI will register. Investigators can use RICA to track owner of the sim, already spoken to them and given info , can hopefully then be traced back to the person who sold it to him!

Aah it was a 3G then! Great stuff! Waiting game now :D

No way that it was FedEx. Customs loves pinching things out of packages.
On average my packages take 2 days to get from China / US to SA, then they sit in customs for 3-5 days and then it takes 2 days to get down to PE. How wonderfully efficient we are in this country :)
I import items often and I've had it happen to me a number of times.
That really sucks though, hope you get it sorted out.

Well the person who sent them out has been kind enough to resend them. FedEx has made no attempt however to contact me again, taxes that I paid don"t think are going to be returned either.:(

I wonder how CPA would have helped here had you investigated the parcel and refused to accept them?

Abit lost, whats the CPA? I will try anything to catch these people.

Sorry my bad.... Consumer protection Act:D Il giv it a try

A few months ago I tried to buy a 3gs on ebay from a guy in the USA. On the destinations part he stated he will sell to buyers in any country except Nigeria, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Maybe the problem is closer to home.

Many eBay sellers will not ship to SA, for good reason, it seems !

I had a dSLR stolen out of the EMS depot in Isando, after being shipped from the USA via USPS Global Express.

hi guys this happend all over the world at customs or at the courier warehouse When ever u shipp goods like this of high value write on it or instruct shipping party to write as "Return Faulty electronics" or "Return Faulty ipad". on Outside of package

Then no one risk loosing there job for stealing a faulty unit.

Believe me this methode works 100%

Yes, but Customs may not like this.
