Just came back from a weekend in Wellington and did 7.2 l/100 all round which is astounding.
Also discovered the car has cornering lights which I somehow wasn’t aware of but was surprise useful doing to a bit of bundu bashing in the dark.
A 4x4 it is not but handles gravel roads perfectly. Suspension is maybe a bit too firm for the more hardcore undulating stuff but it was never meant to do that in the first place.
One thing I would have really liked is some kind of anchoring or hook system in the boot as I had a cooler box flopping around the whole time. I should double check maybe I can hook into the seat catches somehow.

That’s strange, when I’ve left mine “on” as in engine not started but music playing and aircon working I distinctly remember it turning itself off after 10-15min as I was waiting at the traffic department.
When it’s fully on as in engine running then it will just keep going forever but cycles between engine on or running off battery.
So I wonder if they did something weird in this case like leaving the door open or some other extra thing that overrides the default.
1. There is no RDS available, I checked on international FB pages and they confirmed it is not there.
2. I have had the same problem with the car on and me going for lunch and coming back to a dead battery. You don't want the car switching on the engine to charge the battery when you are not there.
I now lock the car each time I get out, it won't lock from the outside if the engine is still on.

Right, first service booked for the 3rd of January.
I've asked if there's any chance of getting an Ora specifically for the day as I'd really like to experience this full electric thing for myself but they couldn't promise me one so we'll see what happens.
I have some concerns that I have a brake disc/s that has warped so that's potentially going to be a warranty claim fight but we'll see how it goes because at 45,000km I definitely don't expect to be replacing discs on any car, not even pads for that matter.
Other than that I've turned the rear collision warning thing off because it truly is the most idiotic feature. By the time you've read the message for why it's beeping at you someone would almost certainly have driven into you already and even if you did get the message instantly what exactly are you meant to do with the information?
One other thing that REALLY annoys me and is so simple to fix as they have the data is that when you've already adjusted your cruising speed for the upcoming speed zone and you've already set it accordingly it does no correlation when reading the speed sign and pings at you even though you are already doing exactly the speed it's recommending to you.

If it makes you feel better, I had to replace the discs after a year on a brand new Megane at the time. Pretty sure it warped because I was doing stupid things like getting the car washed when the brakes were still hot.
I've also had to replace brake pads every year for the past 6 years without fail. Contrast that with once in 6 years with my previous car. Some cars' brakes just wear faster than others...

Pads I can deal with on sportier cars that have softer pads or heavier cars that just need more, but discs should keep trucking for at least 80,000km.
I do know it's likely to be a fight, but the car is also still in it's 6-month post sale CPA warranty and I can technically argue it was like this when I bought it since I've only done <5000km on it.
I've had brake claims done before, but yeah we'll see how it goes.

Drove a Subaru for 7 years/101 000km and only replaced the rear brake pads in that time. The front ones still had plenty life left when I traded it in for an upgrade.
The Car ain't light btw. 1500kg

Yeah scoobies last forever. Car I was talking about was a Toyota 86, which had WRX discs. Disc quality also affects the longevity of the pads. Also driving habits, frequent short distance trips etc

It’s when a car (or any object I guess) approaches you from behind much faster than you are going and it flashes the hazards and tells you on the screen that something is approaching.
I get it triggered by bikes overtaking all the time and when I finally managed to actually read the message for the whole 2 seconds it feels like it shows up I was like “and??? What am I supposed to do about it”.

So I cost myself some money not being use to run flats.
I’ve had a slow puncture on the right rear for a couple of weeks (probably months) and since I have a compressor at home I just topped it up when I spotted it and of course in between my wife drove around with it because it wasn’t like it was flat, just like 2bar instead of 2.4.
Well turns out Run Flats are very sensitive to this and the reason you only get them on cars with tyre pressure monitoring is because you need to pretty much sort this out quick when it happens but more importantly don’t drive over 80km/h when it’s under pressure.
This morning I finally set off to my trusty Hi-Q Brackenfell to have the rotation and wheel alignment done, to be absolutely sure that’s not contributing to the brake shudder I’m feeling.
Yeah well, turns out the sidewall was separating from the tyre on the inside which isn’t obvious with the wheel on the car but very much so when it’s rolling freely.
Good news is it’s only R3000 a tyre which is only marginally more than the Picanto’s tyres use to be, which is crazy considering the size and that they are run flats.
Had a look at the brakes while the wheels were off and apart from the crazy rust this car seems to get on the rotors over everything else I’ve ever driven they look brand new as does the pads…so the shudder is even more bizarre to me but I’m thinking if isn’t something else then a simple skim will sort it out.
What’s interesting is after reading this article, I wonder if the lesser use of brakes as a whole isn’t causing the rust and a build up.
Took it on the highway and while it seemed better it surely isn’t gone and then I did some hard stops with the intention of “cleaning” them and it does seem to improve it so I wonder if my very docile driving with this car over precious ones isn’t actually a contributing factor.
Car is going in on Friday, so let’s see what they say before I jump to my own conclusions.

My thoughts exactly.
I’ve been uncharacteristically docile in driving the full fat SUV.
It’s also somewhat a case of driving less I would imagine. The car never sleeps outside but if it does 1000km a month I’d be surprised.
Yea she sounds like she needs to stretch her legs.
My car turns 5 in two weeks and I'm just shy of 30,000km. Might need to have a boughtday party for her.

I'm one of those people who went from "Who on Earth would option a car with a heated steering wheel?" to "will definitely miss it when it's gone". Some mornings when it's not too cold, I only use the heated seat and heated steering wheel in my car.

I must say it almost works too well in that it only needs to be on like 30 seconds and then it’s done the job.
Now a cooling steering wheel would be magical on those days where the car stood in the sun somewhere.
I would have loved an overall “cool the car down button” that could just turn it all on and blast it for those times.

Well Haval Paarl hasn’t exactly covered themselves in glory this morning.
Rocked up at the dealership to be met by Dawid who sold me the car and informed me that the service centre is actually not there (I’m not sure if it never was there or just moved as there is a small workshop at the back, but maybe it’s just for pre delivery inspection type work) and I asked how does it work getting the courtesy car I was promised if it’s not at the dealer?
The service centre is actually at Isuzu Paarl somewhere down the road.
Turns out the problem was far worse after he made a call over there and they had never actually entered my booking into the system and therefore didn’t have a car for me and were overloaded with work so couldn’t slot me in either way.
Which in a way I prefer as the last thing I want is a rush job and things getting missed because the workshop is overloaded, especially on a Friday.
I knew it was a bad idea doing this in the festive season and I’m guessing someone went on leave and didn’t do the handover.
Either way, had a fat with Dawid and turns out someone bought a car from him based on reading this thread so that’s nice to hear.
Now I’ll probably take them up on the offer to come collect the car as the 80km round trip is already a mission once in 15,000km, I just wanted my first service to be an in person event especially since I need to potentially argue a case with the brake shudder.
We’ll see what happens.
