You know what, the car is only as good as the backup you get from dealers and in my opinion its been pathetic, H6C owner since 2017 and I'm never buying a Haval again.

You and 14 000 other people seem to agree on Haval Must Fall fb page. All kinds of electrical issues along with poor fuel consumption.

Warranty means nothing if every single part is on backorder.

Dealer has been stellar every step of the way, unexpectedly so for a second hand vehicle as well.

You keep bringing up this magical Facebook page as some kind of useful metric.

It’s not. You will find them for every single brand if you bother to look.

Fuel consumption is however not the Chinese’ marques strong points in non-hybrids just yet,but it’s also very far from poor.

But that’s also why this thread exist to give a honest view on reality and not some internet conjecture.

My windscreen has just been warranty claimed with little issue and a waiting time of 4 days during which they provided me a courtesy car to asses and will come and fit it at my premises tomorrow.

I just drove the HEV versions of the H6 and Jolion and I was seriously impressed by both. The H6 is faster off the line but the Jolion isn't far behind. The Jolion makes up for it with a cool EV spaceship sound as you accelerate. They both drive very similar apart from the ride height. Its a tough choice between the two

Yeah it’s made even more tough by the fact you don’t necessarily take fuel economy into consideration as much between the bigger and smaller car like you normally would as it’s not really much of a difference.

I do find the H6 a much better looking car, especially in HEV and GT trims. Would be interesting to see if there will be a Jolion GT at some point.

Secondly, questions remain on the Joloin safety if they really are equal why not send them for euroNcap or iiHS tests? why only ancap.

It’s a Haval branded parts bin windscreen, not just a generic.

In fact unlike most others their entire parts catalog is quite accessible.

I can tell you there are plenty of DSG owners having a moan at VW/Audi over the years as well as problems with the 1.8T motor guzzling oil and they claiming it’s normal…meanwhile they tried to push it out of warranty and then claim a full engine rebuild is required.

Similarly plenty of BMW cam chain and driveshaft failures on specific models.

There’s also the old traditionalist South African mentality who still believe Toyota and the other brands are top by default…not even aware half their ranges are Indian built and have no safety ratings.

The masses are there, you’ve just not looked for them. Also Facebook is a bandwagon, willing to bet half the people on there have never even been inside the cars never mind driven them.

There is nothing wrong with Ancap. Not wanting to enter the European market is an entirely different thing from not being able to. Hence why they are going the all electric route there as likely there is just too much competition in the conventional market right now.


I now know four different very happy Haval owners and the only complaint worth a mention from one of them is that the paints quality isn’t quite at a German level and that I can agree with, but I had similar complaints about my Kia when I first got it but 7 years later it was a false concern.

Good to know they are happy for now. I know of 2 people with electrical issues on new ones. Most end up with constant flat batteries. The electronics in the car won't shut down properly and flat overnight.

The Page that I keep referring to actually has plenty of photos and videos of issues people have with their havals. So inclined to believe it. Havals are cheaper than everyone else. Are they 300k cheaper? no. So why risk it?

1. Sulfur smell from new in the cabin while travelling at over 100km/h Dealer said it was normal
2. Blind spot sensors from new, go off in the rain and the right one activates if I accelerate hard. Which is unnerving when trying to overtake. Had everything replaced Side mirror, control unit and radar sensor in the rear of the car. Nothing fixed it.
3. Steering rack failed, just out of warranty. R13K bill
4. at 60K (while in warranty) heard tappets. car took 4 litres of oil. No oil warning light. From then on oil consumption progressively got worse. I complained many times. the 1st time they tried to say it was a leaky seal. Yet not one drop of oil under the car, anywhere. Come to 100K, engine now needs replacement.
5. Air lock when fuelling, get to about 47L it stops, takes 15 minutes thereafter to try fill up to 60L. Bad design on the fuel tanks.

If you think I drive hard or mistreated the car, take a look at my fuel stats, I get better consumption than most on this gas guzzler of a vehicle. averaging under 12l/100km (EDIT - this is all 90% Town driving in hilly KZN)

Windscreen done today in my driveway/garage and at first I was like hell no I’m not going to look but then curiosity got the better of me and it’s actually quite unnerving to watch.

New windscreen comes pre-fitted with a baseplate for the rain sensor, USB-port and rear view mirror housing which is a whole lot different from what I remember with my Golf where it was quite a mission to transfer.

Became clear upon taking off the old one that it was indeed replaced at some point and not fitted from the factory wrong, so somewhere along the line someone wasn’t paying attention.

Needless to say guys did an excellent job and whole thing was done in an hour or so and as expected the HUD is now crystal clear and perfect the way it should have been.

Also it’s now pretty obvious to me that the one little paint problem causing a potential rust spot was almost certainly caused by the people taking out and replacing the windscreen before, but Haval was always going to sort that out once the new windscreen was in so will arrange for them to come around next week.

All in all I’m more annoyed with myself than anything else for not checking the HUD up front, but end of the day dealer support was great and the relatively simple but I’m sure quite expensive problem is now resolved.

It sucks you had to deal with this and the only thing I can say is that this is a car that is now 7-8 years old which is a lifetime ago especially as a “new” car brand in country.

Things are quite different now, both from the cars themselves but also the dealership support perspective.

But maybe I’m wrong and this thread will be full of crying in the next 5 years, if nothing else I will he objective about my experiences.

As much as my BMW has been the best motorcycle from an ownership perspective it certainly has not been faultless, but the dealer has made most of those niggles a lesser issue. Just yesterday I had to strip the Keyless fuel tank cap to clean it up because it is no longer working and would leave me stranded if I didn’t take the time now to figure it out.

In contrast my Triumph was a lemon much like your Haval it seems and the dealership’s (lack of) support just made it all the more sour and I’ll never own a Triumph again because of it.

That being said in my experience the dealer themselves also make all the difference and there definitely is a difference from one to another even within the same brand.

No, no it was the 1.2 and Manual.

6.8l/100km real world on average is pretty good I reckon.

I got 5.8L/100 with my 1.0L manual Picanto (the auto is my mother's that I drive whenever I go back home). I get 5.9L/100 with my Baleno which has a 1.5L engine that puts out about 50% more power (over the 1.0L Picanto) and moves around a bigger car.

End of the day it all depends on the kind of driving you do, I saw 5.0 l/100km many times in urban areas and speeds of 80km/h and lower, even climbing mountain passes.

But the moment you hit the highways for extended periods due to the small engine you would use more fuel.

I also don't go out of my way to try and keep the fuel economy down.

I just went to check my Fuelly stats of the car and I actually must have mistyped because the lifetime average is actually 6.3 l/100km. I'll fix and go update that statement now.

I switched off my aircon on Tuesday in my H6 Hybrid as my fuel usage was higher in the winter.

Read on my FB group that the car uses the ICE more in winter to heat up the car via the aircon, switched on ECO mode and heated up my seat in the early morning. My fuel usage after a day of mixed use went down to 5.8L/100km.

I am very impressed.

It does annoy the kak out of me that it can’t remember that last mode you had it in and stick to it.

When I have it serviced going to make sure it’s on the most recent firmware because this seems stupid, but then a mate of mine said his Jolion HEV is the same, so maybe it’s a hybrid thing.

Ja, the new firmware will also not remember it, I think that is the thing I hate the most of the car.

That and a dedicated button to go to the Haval home screen from Android Auto.

Popped it in Eco this morning before leaving home, didn't change Climate Control or anything like that, ass warmer was on and everything and I got 6.9l/100km for the whole trip which is insane.

Changing the Dashboard to have the A/C, Seat Heating and Mode controls right on the main screen makes things a lot better, the radio and other kak can bugger off to the second screen.

Yeah I've pretty much used the smaller icon boxes to put Climate Control, Vented/Heated Seats, and Mode on the first screen and then other stuff on next slide over screen.

I just wish you could flip the entire interface around, the buttons are on the wrong side and I'm sure it is because the interface was made the same for left and right hand drive.
