2022 Haval H6 HEV - Enter the CCP

Unbelievably I realised tonight was the first time I’ve actually driven the car in the dark when I spotted the red ambient lights in the door I didn’t know were there.

Interestingly neither of the screens are crazy bright as one would expect. I don’t think they do any kind of auto brightness but it’s probably that they are sort of in dark mode by default that makes it less of an issue.

The HUD has a border around it from the reflection of the projector if you look very closely so I might turn that down a bit in daylight to a level where it’s still clearly visible.

A very nice place to be with my ass being warmed and the seats being very comfortable.

If I have one complaint comfort wise it’s that the seat doesn’t tilt, which means if you want thigh support you have no choice but to jack it up or move it further back. Moving it back has limits though as the steering telescoping only comes out so far.

In a perfect world having it tilt would be first prize, or adding 5cm to the steering wheel reach. Small thing really but I would have preferred to be sitting lower than I am now, but maybe over time I’ll also get more into this SUV mode.

Also very surprised to find the factory fitted Bridgestones are actually very cheap at R2799 - R2999 and the exact same tyre BMW uses on many of their similar models. This is only a couple of hundred bucks more than the lesser brand I seem to recall went on the Picanto last time round.

Unbelievably only put my second tank of fuel in yesterday, which sort of makes sense as this car has double the range over the previous one.

Fuelly reckons 8.0 L/100km which is bang in exactly what the car was saying. Pretty good for the size of the car and I reckon will be lower with more short drives in traffic as we’ve mostly only been done long distance lately.

An oddity I discovered on the weekend is the lack of seatbelt height adjustment. Such a standard thing that’s been in every car I’ve driven in recent years.
 
Just picked up my 2nd hand Haval H6 Hybrid - it's lot of car and tech for the money! The only gripe I have so far is the steering wheel is a bit thin coming for an Audi. Might get a leather cover made for the steering wheel. Also need to figure out how to disable keyless entry as that just seems like an invitation to get get stolen

Keyless entry only works holding your finger on the door handle and only on the driver's door so it's really a non-event and not something to be worried about.

Be more concerned about yourself leaving the keys in the car and leaving it ON, not realising it's on and then going shopping for an hour...

Something to be more mindful of is that this car doesn't have any kind of auto-lock function which you'll probably find especially weird coming from an Audi. I've always been in the habit of hitting the button regardless, but it can catch you out if you expected it to lock like I've done leaving it in the driveway outside.

Heard this comment about the thin steering wheel before but not something that I've taken particular notice of and I was a VAG man myself previously.

Auto-park does not do well with sidewalk type parkings, in fact it's so bad it's a bloody comedy.

Tried to park at my mom's place on the weekend and my son who is obsessed with the auto parking said I should show his sister how it works...I expected it not to detect the parking space at all since it's obviously not demarcated in any way but it happily detected the spot and I let it do its thing.

Problem is there's a slight incline and then also the typical triangular sidewalk section and the car reversed happily and got the rear wheels up but the moment the front ones hit this it just lost the plot and started see-sawing back and forth.

I let it carry on for about a minute before everyone got annoyed so no idea if it would have figured it out eventually.

Still don't know why it doesn't forward park at all, it would have probably worked then.

I got a metallic grey from Woodmead - pretty good service getting up the HUD and tested all features before I could drive off

I think the remote cloning is an issue though if you look here the process is dead simple - if you look here all they need is an RF relay to get the FOB inside your house. All the equipment is available on TAL

Follow the steps below:
Step 1: Put the VVDI super chip into the keytool and open the xhorse app.
Step 2: Go to keytool and select special functions
Step 3: Select "Set type of VVDI super transponder"
Step 4: Scroll down to Reset VVDI super chip. It's the last option on that page
Step 5: Tap set

There are very specific cars prey to the keyless relay hack and I believe they are mostly older cars.

Either way you can’t turn it off. Your best option is an RFID-blocking holder/container.

But you need to he ridiculously close to the Haval for it to work anyway, like less than 1m and then touch the door at the same time.

It’s way more of an issue for cars that intentionally had massive range for these things.

Besides take the keyless away then you have a far easier bypass in play which is simply jamming the lock issued from the button press.
 
@bokka1 was 100% right the car definitely is more economical on hot days.

Wife did about 80km round trip this morning and I jumped in right after to go the shops and it was sitting at a very low 6.4/l100km all of that in normal mode.

If that averages out I'm more than happy happy with the results, even 8l/100km was perfectly acceptable to me.
 
One week down and these are my thoughts

Things I like:
Its big, almost too big inside
Super quiet inside especially in urban driving
More tech then you reasonably need in a car
Great acceleration for its size and I previously drove a fast small Audi

Things I don't like
Thin steering wheel - I'm going to get its professionally wrapped in leather
No RDS functions on the radio so I have to remember 98.00 is 5FM etc - even the tech can't get it to work
No volume controls accessible by the passenger

Wait till you try to wash it yourself...first car ever where I can't reach the middle of the windscreen without a step ladder and even then still managed to hurt my shoulder rotator cuff thing.

It is ridiculous how fast it is with that electric assistance. The 0-100 doesn't tell the whole story.

This morning I drove to the shops and back all on electric and it's quite an experience as much as I need to really massage the throttle to do it.

I stand to be corrected but if you use the shortcut drop down from the main screen I think there was a volume control there. Still not as simple as a button or wheel but better/safer than reaching over to the steering wheel while someone is driving.

That being said the auto volume leveling on this car is really good so I rarely feel I need to adjust it.
 
Piano black inside cars really is a load of kak.

I might just get one of those sticker kits from Temu and make it look all fake carbon fibre, but then I'm not sure I can trust myself to get it done properly.
 
A few updates on my H6 HEV experience.

The dealer couldn't update the software to get RDS enabled on the radio so now I'm getting used to remembering my radio stations by frequency.

Over the weekend friends were poking around in the car but left "on" while we were at a braai and 3 hours later both batteries were flat and the car can't move or start the engine. Jump starting the car on the 12v battery with no issued but with the high voltage battery dead it drives like a donkey. After 10km the battery filled to 50% and all was well again. The irritation is the car should have started the engine to recharge both batteries after passing 50% discharge
