Which sites?

Various, including my own domain server, which is hosted in Texas and also a friend's domain server in Oz.

Also, American sites which used to take, say, 10 - 15 seconds to open, now load in less than 2 seconds. This has been consistent since last night.

Interesting, though, my test results on Speedtest haven't really changed much.

Do a tracert on your connection tell us where the link is going then we can see which route its going 100% change its going via sat3

Pricing

What exactly does this encompass?

Pricing are arround $ 850 - $ 1000 per mbps for access to seacom then the local lead needs to be added to get to you the customer around $ 900 - $ 1500 depending on your location

so what ever you are going to buy international you are going to spend the same on getting it to you

buy the way the local incumbent wants R 277000 for 20meg Jhb to Pe

Unsurprising. That is what they do best.

Thank you for the info.

I would expect the wireless providers e.g. Klear / UniNet to have something of an infrastructure advantage . . . although I don't think there's been a peep from them, recently.

Not enough funding

Wireless ISP's dont not have access to enough funding to purchase STM1 access they are still with IS etc

The only way to transport the bandwidth around is by microwave links to keep it low latency and reliable 2.4 and 5.8 is only good for last mile

That's weird! I get a "no response" for every hop (is that the right word?) except for the first and the last, which is my domain IP address.

But, you may be right. I see Helkom has upgraded SAT-3. Mmm ...

18ms to google from here in london

you should get around 330ms on adsl

telkoms upgrade will not give any better results it is for future capacity needs

mmmh So Telkom has always lied about the available capacity on the SAT3 system.

So let let prosecute them, DOPE! no we can't!

Solution. As an Telkom contracted ISP open another ISP, get your bandwidth exclusively from Seacom, move customers over to new ISP, declare bankruptcy on the old, get out of contract.

I have heard from my ISP that they will be decreasing prices next month... they are just testing first and once they are live they will change their pricing
