Big ADSL data bonus for Telkom Internet users

daft question, but how do you check your cap on telkom isp - i recently signed to the do-broadband package

+1 suggestion, and I too hold out hope that they will see the light and leave these increased caps in place. Here's to hope :D

Tip: Teh InterwebZ

i.e. Everything.

Start with: Drivers. (200MB for video cards), service packs (Win7 Sp1 is umm 900Meg or so), .NET framework and other libraries, ISOs and distros of Linux and let's see Libre Office is good coupla hundred meg

Then staying with the legal but not free to download: Steam... two~four games is a good 15GB or so.
Oh I forgot TF2 is now "free to play" so there goes some download cap and some online bandwidth for play,

Then there's Torrentz and other pr0n... www.pornolab.net and www.isohunt.com
register and get a Russian to English translator thingy for your browser.

all in all you could EASILY cap out 20GB within... two weeks? on a 512kbit/sec ADSL?

I think you can login here: https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/ to check your usage, but I don't think it tells you your cap there. I have a email notification set up to recieve a daily mail that breaks the usage down into a good bit of detail. Set up one with the "Notifications" link in the left-hand menu.

Maybe they're thinking about the 3% that do exceed their cap? Maybe they're thinking about being competitive with other ISPs?

Doubtful, but you never know. Mweb changed their spots, why can't telkom?

September is going to be interesting, can't imagine they're doing this as a "Reward" for only 2 months.

Will they introduce capped accounts of varying sizes - 5, 10, 15, 20GB or a possibly a top up plan that works for "Blended"?

The 2011 Telkom guessing game is now officially open. Possibly RPM can offer a prize for the most innovative suggestion :D

I know of Youtube and Last.fm, but that is more like watch and listen. Is there a place to buy movies online from SA? And music? The funny home videos of my brother in Australia are becoming increasingly boring...
 
Very good of Telkom to finally join the party, very coincidental that I was actually on the line waiting (for 40min) to cancel my Telkom account and move over to uncapped Afrihost when I read the post.
This weekend Telkom's network will be put to the test and that goes for every Telkom client that knows about this upgrade :)
Very strange that they themselves did not advertise this or am I living in a cave.

Correct. First I saw was on my usage notification last night and then the email this afternoon.

Have not seen any "official" press release yet.
 
Big up to Telkom. Good move to get the 384k users onto the 1mbit train.
