Well afrihost charge R479 for 50 gigs, webafrica now charges R399. Fairly impressive.

Here's hoping the uncapped accounts get a decent price drop as well - and soon.

I'd prefer that any cost savings be used to reduce contention and purchase more bandwidth, rather than a straight price drop.

Openweb's tiered package approach is the best. It allows customers a choice if they want cheaper or less contended. Personally, i think there are many users who are currently priced out of the uncapped market, so price drops should be seen as a priority. The bottom line is from the average person's perspective a price drop makes for a far better and understandable visual. They will pick up more non techie customers that way.

Now those home users can use more data between 5pm and 12am and on weekends - you know, that time when they are home and actually awake. ;):)

The previous 12am to 6am download window was really for downloading, which was still a bad deal for users because the accounts were priced poorly. Other isp's offer far better accounts for mass downloading.
 
Nothing like a good ol' price war.

Nice one WebAfrica. It's about time your pricing got competitive.

Depends on which package you have, these improvements are for the old Home Connect packages only.

All the other packages shouldn't have peak and off-peak. We'll be emailing all customers who can benefit from this a little later today :)

My current 50GB account is 10GB any time and 40 GB off peak. Off peak being 7pm to 7am weekdays, and all weekend...? So no, I can't actually use more data really.
 
This sounds like a good deal - but tell me - will I be throttled, or will the speeds be the same during the day / night?
 
According to the table in the main article 25GB is priced at R239/month. However, looking at the WA website this is just a promotional price for the first 3 months, and thereafter it is priced at R299/month.

I would like to know do existing customers get the "promo" price for the first 3 months if they migrate to the 25GB package, or is that only for new customers?
 
I'm not even sorry to rain on this parade. The big T offers 20 gigs for R 239, plus 30 gigs local. WA offers 25 gigs straight. I'd rather have the 30 gigs local than the 5 extra blended gigs. So, sorry, not price competitive. It's even worse when I compare the 10 gig WA offer (same price as Telkom, but no free local), or look at Do 3, where I effectively pay R 141 for my 20 + 30 gigs.

Same comment applies to the Openweb offer from last week.

However you can upgrade to Pro, pushing the priority up to Titanium.

You are correct, the 2GB package and the 25GB package are discounted for the first three months. Existing customers who upgrade also benefit from this promotion though :)
 
THis is a decent enough move....

Will suit my folks who are on a Home Connect package quite well.
