Big Afrihost ADSL problems

Wonder how long it will take to resolve, or will it just get worse.
Streaming is down, latency is even worse.

Please also post your feedback directly on that thread, and Gian has promised to personally answer as many questions as he can. Otherwise, myself and the other Afrihost reps will be happy to chat about any aspects of Gian's letter via PM.
 
I am a business product customer and even I cant get decent bandwidth. getting barely 0.5mbit from youtube on my 4Mbit account.

I did some digging when I saw references being made to past occurrences...
What ISP do you use?
 
Its too little too late.
Im tired of paying monthly for a service that sucks.
I could be spending the same money elsewhere and not having the problems. Heck I would even pay a little more just to have it work properly.

I have been a big Afrihost fan for a long time now, but like many other old fans Im tired of trying to defend something that seems to be broken that often.

I totally understand where you are coming from, I know that many of our clients are also not getting the experience they expect. We hope that you'll stay a little longer and see what we've got planned. I really do believe this will be a big step forward and also allow us to offer the best experience and value to our clients, in ways that have never been possible before.

At least Afrihost openly and publically admits when there's a problem. Poor WA subscribers have to fish such issues out of the reps...

Doesn't that point to MTN?

Everything has been sh*t in the south for years now since they switch to crappy MTN!
Vox is fine but I capped myself a few mins ago. End of movie. Guess it's bed time.

Do you know how long its taken them to admit this? Go have a look at the Afrihost thread and you have people complaining from months ago.

Previous update from AH: Telkom IPC Upgrade delayed until 18th April 2014

We've been informed by Telkom that they can't install the IPC upgrade in the South today. They have now promised that they will do so by the 18th of April (about a week or so from now). We're really disappointed with this, and we'll continue to follow this up to see if anything can be done to speed this up with Telkom or if we can at least confirm this new date from them.

This will affect IPC delivery in the East as well, as both orders are concurrent, and should be delivered roundabout the same time.

I'm truly sorry about this, and I can understand that some clients are going to feel very upset about this. I promise that we've done our best to get commitments for today, and as far as we knew (up till just now) everything was confirmed for delivery today.

I'm definitely available by PM if anyone wants to discuss how they feel about this delay, and obviously we'll discuss this here in our threads.

Really, truly sorry about this additional unforeseen delay :(

Fixes "expected" by 30 OCT 2014

Many Afrihost ADSL subscribers are complaining about slow speeds and poor network performance. To address these problems, Afrihost is upgrading its ADSL network across the country.

Capped and uncapped Afrihost ADSL subscribers have noted they are experiencing speeds well below what their ADSL lines offer and what they expect.

“I’m getting anything from 1Mbps to 2.5Mbps on a 4Mbps line with a capped Afrihost account,” said one user.

“My speed tests are hovering at 4Mbps on a 10Mbps ADSL line. I’ve never had such slow speeds since I moved to a 10Mbps line,” said another user.

Afrihost director Greg Payne said that the company had seen increased ADSL usage in all regions recently, and to address the increased demand for data Afrihost was upgrading its ADSL network.

“Last week we upgraded our East IPC (Durban and Eastern Regions). This week and next week we are in the process of upgrading our North IPC (Johannesburg and Northern regions) and our South IPC (Cape Town and Southern regions),” said Payne.

“Hopefully within the next 10 days or so we will be back to normal,” Payne said.

I have a capped account and the only thing I’d like to see improve is the time it takes for the account to authenticate. (PPPoE connection)
Other than that, I'm very happy. :)
 
Ah yes, the whole AH+ thingy:

Afrihost CEO Gian Visser said in an e-mail to subscribers on Tuesday, 18 November 2014 that they plan to launch a suite of value-added services called Afrihost Plus+ to their subscribers within the next two days.

Afrihost has said that it has decided to delay the launch of Afrihost Plus to get more feedback from clients, and depending on client feedback may not launch the product any time soon, or even at all.

AH always been a bit of a naspers in this regard by fixing things that does not need fixing when clearly other areas needs attention. Think clientzone upgrade in the first round of DSL issues...

Web Africa Business.

I stream a lot so was never able to use seriously consider Afrihost. Just like to keep up to date on all the ISPs.

You're on a 10Mbs line right? What's your monthly usage on your account?
