Bitco Consumer Q&A

Will BitCo be reviewing either it's pricing or Service Value after the May 2015 DSL Pricing reductions, whatever those will be?

I second this question, not just because of Telkoms price adjustments, but because of the FTTH pricing, it is looking very competitive!! :D

10 meg connection in Radiokop
Ping test shows no packet loss, 38ms ping and 7ms jitter. Spped is 9,7 Mbps
One can pick up this problem in virtually all games however on some it also continually disconnects

Quite true, however if your protocols and ports are not configured properly the fastest link in the world still won't make difference, I've had my link for nearly 3 months and the first 1 &1/2 of those months, it was seamless with all my games, now only battlefield 4 gives me ****.....why?

Hi Mike & Garth,

I have a complain to make.

Please review the downgrading fee for people on a month to month contracts.

It doesn't make sense why i will be charged a certain amount if i decide to change packages on a month to month. What if i decide to have my link disconnected for a month or two, will i be charged a re-connection fee?

From a Happy Bitco Customer

Did anybody experience slow P2p downloads last night between 11pm and 5am didn't get a speed higher that 616.00KB/sec normally get a transfer of 1mb/s

will you guys branch out to other provinces? We need a seriously good wisp in witbank, mpumalanga

Contact Mike, he might be able to assist, if BitCo have moved the IP of your seedbox to the P2P pool, I am assuming they would be able to adjust and revert. Question:- Why would they do that?

I did read a article today about p2p in general being inconsistent and causing issues (downloads erratic), a lot of the ADSL guys are also bitching and moaning.

So after a few weeks of monitoring and speaking to BitCo again, they refuse to lift the heavy handed shaping policy on downloads from my seedbox, claiming they aim to protect 90% of their users from the 10% of abusers which I assume they are referring to me.

Even though I have no way of monitoring usage from a control panel or see my total usage as this is not available and was denied when asking for it, I find it ironic how they can classify my usage (after hours) as excessive, seeing as I'm on the 10mb link.

Bitco.....its time to show value!!

My 12 month agreement comes to an end in Feb 2016. The fibre is outside my front gate already.

Exciting times ahead!!

As soon as my contract period ends I'm cancelling. I had a 10 day outage and was credited for 5 days, cause even with 80% packet loss due to interference on my link, apparently some "data usage" still took place and therefore I'm only getting 5 days credit.

Hell even Telkom credit you for the full outage if you have a fault ref.

If I'm lucky I see speeds over 400kb/sec and that's only at near midnight/1am 'ish.

From 6PM (when the supposed speeds should become available) up to 12AM I get around 10kb/sec from my Seedbox.

I -was- a super happy customer until the heavy handed responses and -don't care about you- attitude came in with the emails.

I have stopped referring people to BitCo as an ADSL alternative as it isn't a real adsl alternative if you are looking at medium usage (400gb or so per month) on a 10mb link.

I'm also unable to stream twitch at even medium quality setting without constant buffering.

When it comes to streaming Twitch........... what more can i say, useless bloody streaming service. Nothing to do with Bitco.

All the other streaming services work perfectly..............................maybe thats why they call it Twitch!:D

Just tried it on our 50mb/s fibre line at the office, on high quality it doesn't even play, medium quality it buffers every +-30 seconds, low setting it buffers every 2 mins, what can i say, it is a **** service!

Yeah strange you say that, December 2014 I could watch on Source without buffering, now I can't. It seems to me that the same is happening with BitCo that happened to Afrihost, massive influx of new customers and they had to implement serious shaping policies (as opposed to getting more bandwith) to keep the network stable.

At the same time I was having buffering issues on medium, 3 of my clanmates were watching the same event over ADSL (4mb minimum, other party had a 10mb link) all could do medium without buffering.

So streaming the same content, from the same source, over different connections and experience is day and night when compared.

I'm sorry but this product is definitely not what I had hoped it would be. I'm seriously dissapointed in how BitCo has managed my issues/complaints and even my 10 day outage.

Then there is the blatant miscommunication about 24/7 support (which is NOT available for home users),

BitCo said:
Excellent service: Our 24/7 help desk ensures swift and efficient response to any queries or problems.

Taken from their website.

Swift? 10 days to solve a "interference problem" where I had to beg, plead, threaten and fight to get any sort of update. Then a measly 5 day credit after the fact.

Then being told indirectly I'm an excessive user (even though I'm on the 10mb link, and consume far less than the average 4mb adsl user does) and then to top it all off, it's aimed to be a premium replacement for ADSL.

At least with Telkom I know when/how I'm going to be shafted, with BitCo it all came as a surprise.

It is unfortunate that the one provider i would have thought to offer an exceptional HOME offering, looks to be resting on its ...... at the expense of its home users.

My business line streams twitch during office hours effortlessly, at home (same speed) I am better off driving the 4kms back to my office.(they convinced me that the HOME product would be the same as my business Bitco line)

Been with Bitco for a while and up until about 4mths ago, got 1st class service, reliable bandwidth and was never shaped. (Customer care was great then - Wonder if anyone at Bitco remembers those golden times?)

Hope they restore their former sparkle soon, i do miss them....

Well I guess it's no surprise that there is NO feedback on the comments I've made in the thread (or others for that matter).

Wonderful support and communication from a company that apparently "cares" about their customers, no?

Oh, I forgot to add that, without giving customers usage graphs and alerts for their links, how can BitCo classify usage as "over utilization?"

They run a A grade network but can't provide a basic tool such as link usage? What a JOKE!

Not can't - more like won't. When I asked for some usage details to justify my upgrade a while back it was no problem. Mention any other reason and Bitco plays deaf and dumb.

Hi Senshi,

Thanks for the post.

I would like to re-confirm that we do not shape or limit any form of online media streaming services. We constantly test the online streaming services and we find no issues on our side.

In the event of you experiencing a problem please can you log it with [email protected] so the technical team can check and ensure the ports are fully optimized on our network.

On the bandwidth utilization side we provide each home user with a Linksys E900 router, if you log into this device you will notice you have a tab on the left hand side called Bandwidth Management, this will allow you to see Daily, Weekly & Total Usage.

Furthermore you also have the ability to email [email protected] and ask our team to send you a usage graph from our core router

Mike

Just to absolutely clarify Mike? (As the words "not "and "any" are only used where absolutes are concerned,)

Unless your wording needs looking at. That implies no leaky bucket. (For streaming only??) This is great news, so please re-re-clarify.

They do Shape and Limit online streaming, to Bitco it still uses Data and the FUP will kick in. If you try watch Netflix, after a few episodes you will be throttled down to 2MBps on a 5Mbps line. HD goes out the window at that point.

You pay for 5MBps but like Eskom, please don't try use it :erm:

I don't know why they just don't use a Average GB usage per month like the other ISP's and make everyone happy or give people a choice to use the Broken Leaky Bucket or Average usage. I myself don't even come close to 100GB a month and could enjoy the full line i'm paying for.

The mentality at Bitco is very close minded which is frowned upon by many. If you read their Q and A section they even make mention to a 1:1 contention ratio which we all know is total rubbish. Most people don't know what the contention ratio means so when they see that they think WOW when it actual fact they are being fooled.

Bitco originally stated that the 5MBps line could do "Uninterrupted HD streaming", i think they need an online dictionary as they clearly do not know what they are talking about. Since my complaint a few months back this ha subsequently been rephrased as just "Online Streaming" minus the word "HD"

Bitco offers 1:1 contention? At that price...

It's just not economically viable.
