Thanks Garth, after so many years of only Telkom this is a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dark internet situation.. I hope there are no problems..
 
Garth, any updates on the lack of coverage in the Weltevreden Park area? A tower on top of Northcliff Ridge should do it... Let me know if you need a contact for the owner of two of the existing towers already up there!
 
Question : I'm paying for a dns at unblock us to stream. The dns is configured on the router and not on all the devices. Will I still be able to do this with the Bitco equipment.

I cannot see why it wouldn't work. If you have any issues you can email support and we will help resolve it. I believe there are many users using other streaming services very successfully.

I had a chat with tech support and according to them it will not work.

Will it be possible to get better clarification on it please.

I use Netflix and Hulu with Unotelly IP no issues at all.

Why would you need to add it to the router though? I also wanted to do it but was advised differently. Rather just add it to the devices and it's done?

When it's added to the router it's open to every device and I don't need to change any other settings.

I'm currently using it as described and it works hassle less.

It will affect your ping for online gaming you know that right?

Makes a difference of about 20 - 30ms difference on my side. Just have a look.
That is the reason I added it to the devices instead. When I need Netflix on my PC I just add the DNS and remove it when I don't use it.

Yes, it is far better to add the DNS address to each device. If you add it to your router, your Internet performance will be slower and you will go overseas to fetch local content.

I can confirm Unotelly does work on our network. If you are using another DNS service similar to Unotelly we will ensure it works similar to Unotelly.

Check your latency to Google when using the DNS service. Instead of 4-5ms it may be 100ms or more. This is why it is much better to add the DNS to each device and not your router.

I actually have 2 routers in my house, the bitco one and a "media" one.
The media one has the unotelly stuff configured and pushes it out via dhcp to all devices in the house which require netflix and the likes. Everything else that doesn't need it connects directly to the bitco router.


I came up with this setup because the Roku doesn't allow you to specify DNS settings, it has to use DHCP and this way it works 100%.

EDIT : By the way, Amazon Prime and Vudu work like a boss on Bitco. I'm loving it.

My current setup:

Telkom line, router configured with dns settings to stream on any device in the house.
Router to switch.
Switch to another 2 router extending the range but only the first router dish out IP addresses.
 
Slightly off topic, but everything BitCo is in this thread, so I guess it's ok.

Does anyone have a picture of the installed antenna? The only pic in this thread has a bit of a bad angle.
I've contacted BitCo, got a quote, but I just want to check with the landlord before proceeding. :)

I'm curious; has anyone had an antenna installed in a more "satellite-dish-like" position (instead of the long mast)? Do they even do this?
