Just got mine this week !
I got my phone from MTN on the Anytime 100 Package for R149 / mo
Wanted to get it as an upgrade on my Anytime 200 package that expires in December, but is obviously upgradable now. They wanted to charge me a once off amount of R2900 to "downgrade" to the anytime 100 and R269 / mo to remain on the anytime 200.
My two previous smartphones were the HTC P4350 (Windows Mobile 6) and a Sony Ericsson P1i (Symbian UIQ 3). What a refreshing change!! The Blackberry platform is so simple to use and the os is very stable. I like the calender and to do very much, but the blackberry's handling of e-mail is by far the best I have ever experienced.
Even though Edge is obviously much slower than 3G it is still fine for browsing. It is always available (unlike the internet access on both my previous phones that would sometimes stop working until I switch the phone off and on). I downloaded a few podcasts and got between 15 and 20 Kbytes / second.
The display on 8520 is very clear. I struggle with the backlight that seems to do its own thing with the auto dimming switched on (maybe the phone is broken)
The whole Blackberry APN thing is very confusing to me. They say that media streaming is not covered - does that then include downloading podcast mp3 files (which can also be streamed). I am also not sure that BIS started immediately. Any advice to help me understand the data charges better will be appreciated.
