Blackberry 8520 on Contract

I am all for spreading the love when it is the right thing to do, but will hardly want to sit in a stinking quagmire and encourage others into the same hole as I am stuck in

Maybe they will get it sorted, but until they do, I will not be singing their praises to anyone.

I demonstrated the speed test to my colleagues at work, then did a practical opening of the BB browser and tried to load google.co.za, one by one they stood and shook their heads in disbelief.

I rebooted my BB and the first thing I did was to try to open the Google site, stopped it and opened the IOL site, took five minutes to load

But I am not just talking, I am proving to all that this is not a good option via demonstration, seeing is believing.

See here for error message:

BIS not being served

Go for the MTN 8520 contracts if you are unsure about getting the 8520 because of the speed issues. My fiance's vodaskum 8520 is rediculously slow to browse/download with while my Bold 9000 on MTN is pretty decent speedwise. There are hiccups now and then but still WAY faster than Vodascum.

Speeds still pathetic on VC BIS. Can't believe that VC is doing nothing about it, it is a breach of contract.

Bold is 3G though, might that not be part of it?

My problem is the "hiccups" that MTN are throwing in my way trying to get the contract... Have PMed a few people on this list who I thought MIGHT be able to help - if anyone from MTN reads this and can help with issues getting a contract please PM me!

Thanks

Vodacom is full of S***, I got the BB 8520 about 3 weeks ago and noticed that they are charging R149 + R59 for the BIS. I called the store 3 times and nothing was done I called Vodacom just now

ME - I am being charged R59 for BIS but its meant to be free.
Vodacom - Sir The Blackberry Internet Service eg. Internet Email Facebook... Is FREE If you pay the R59.
Me - ROFL ummm BIS you do know stands for Blackberry Internet Service and that is advertised FREE on your site.
Vodacom - Please hold....... Yes it is FREE but you must pay the R59 to activate.
ME - OK never mind Ill just have a chat with my lawyer since false advertising is illegal.
Vodacom - I will call you back I just want to confirm everything.
Vodacom Calling Back - So Sorry Sir we have confirmed that the BIS service is free and will not charge you.

I advice anyone who has this phone to make sure they are not being charged the R59 for BIS it is a free service and they cannot charge for it on this contract. If they insist that it is not free please give me a PM I will try pass you on to someone that knows what they are talking about. Seem most Vodacom outlets and Call centre employees don't understand the definition of FREE.

Hope this save some of you some cash R59 over 24 months is R1416 I could use and extra R1416 these days.

Blackberry with my old sim

Hi Guys
I have a MTN contract at the moment. If i go and get the MTN Blackberry for R149 month, will i be able use my old sim card / contract. Basically changing handsets. Will I be able to do the free Net surfing / emails etc.
Thanks

I have ordered the BB 8520 on Weekender, but Im afraid that I will be very disappointed when it arrives. I have a Samsung i780 at the moment on a Talk 130, so the BB will be a 2nd phone. Is there anything better than the 8520 thats free on a weekender contract?

The guy at Cellucity Melrose Arch told me that if I wanted I could get the contract for the BB 8520 for R135. I just took the BIS for an extra R15 p/m in case I ever use that other sim card.

If he could do that, im not so sure its free.

Whats up with the browsing speed on BIS. Im flabbergasted....it took 3 minutes to load 15kb. My old Sony C702 does this almost immediately. My old iPhone was also pretty fast (3G off).

Anyone know if this is the norm. Its all good we get free browsing for R60 but whats the point if its slower than dial-up....

Data Services On BB

I just got the BB through Vodacom at the end of September.
They advertised unlimited emails and browsing.
But I am being charged for data services.

The call centre says that I should not access the internet via Vodafone live because I will then be charged.

This was no where in there advertisements of the phone.

I have written a complaint on hellpeter and have advised Vodacom that I will ne lodging a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority Of South Africa for incorrect advertsing and misleading the public.

I am looking at getting the BB 8520, if i get it on contract A can i use the phone with contract B's sim card and get access to the uncapped internet? Ie buy the uncapped internet on contract B?

It's possible, for R60 you can load BIS on SIM card B.

ok, does this phone have wifi? is there any reason why i shouldn't get it?

It does have wifi - I haven't gotten it to work my side but its probably a setting and its not a priority for me.
The keys are smaller than I'd like otherwise its cool..

the keys do feel really small, Are you used to the small keys or do you make a lot of errors when typing.

I make a LOT of errors... also I am used to a Nokia E71 where things like uppercase and symbols are much better laid out...
