BlackBerry problems plague users once again

Had no issues on MTN. Voda and BB seem to have a definate love hate relationship.

Lots of people b!tching and moaning about BB network downtime... who of you haven't experienced downtime with 3G/HSDPA via any of the other networks... VC, MTN, 8ta, CellC? Fact is we've all experienced it... so why the huge fuss when BB has a problem... then all the Android/iOS users start flogging the BB crowd... why... I can't understand!

All in all BB and all it's services are just as reliable as any of the other local services! No I don't use a BB, I'm an Android junky!

The world is full of trolls unfortunately. I am also surprised whenever a big hoo-ha about BIS down time is made; as if nothing else goes down, ever. The fact that it's such a front-page news article whenever BIS is down probably reflects just how stable the system is as when it does go down it seems to be a big shock?

Official RIM SA comment:

A small number of BlackBerry customers on the Vodacom network may have experienced service issues this morning. As an update, we can confirm that all BlackBerry services have now been restored. RIM apologizes to our customers for any inconvenience.

Crap I still have an issue.

Is it not possible to use normal 3G data when BB's network has trouble? At least that way all the trolls can still grumble about it on all the social media platforms when there's issues!

A small number of BlackBerry customers - I assume this to mean 50% or less!

Even when BIS is working it seems as if it's at best struggling to say the least...

I think that the reason is because downtime on the normal 3G/HSDPA services is far less common. And when it does work, which is probably 98% of the time, it is usually more reliable, far quicker and simply better than anything BIS offers.

Trust me it will. I think vodacom fully understand that BIS is not good for business so hell let's throttle it and get users to jump ship we can make more money on data from other phones Not using the bis

+1

Alexandra Zagury and her whole team can get knotted! "promised to update clients about service outages" my a$$! Empty promises from a company which just cannot right their ship!

SERIOUSLY tempted to go SIII in November, even though the data charges will burn a hole in my pocket!

Cell C has the best prepaid data rates IMO, 500MB is R75. Glad I moved to them from Vodacom.

True, but I like them in all shapes and sizes. Did you check the hot new face of Mweb Connect?

Fair comment and very true.

Again I am not inclined to the believe this is RIM internally that had the issue. As this impact was and can only be verified to be with Vodacom only at this time, then either this will be an issue with the Service Provider that RIM peer into. It is here that Vodacom also peer into to close the APN and will be here at this granular point to possibly be the problem.

Although other service providers will be peer into the same provider in Europe, the detailed connections at this point will differ for each local SP.

When RIM log incident to the carrier for scheduled maintenance (CRQ) or Incidents (INC) this will be based on percentages across the "EMEA region". This percentage will differ through the Incident period.

"In saying that there is yet to be a logged incident from RIM to acknowledge there was an issue with them."
RIM notifications can be improved but what is there already is more than sufficient, its the carrier that is failing here and won't acknowledge their own issues to the customer base.

Change Requests occur regularly and for the majority are kept into terms of the defined schedule.

With reference to "Vodacom" they have in fact have degraded BB Service locally for nearly 2 years (APN).
This at times as we all know extends to normal data services, yes even the iPhone.
They currently cannot maintain the load in peak times after hours.

! Its important to understand the entire Architecture !

I'm on MTN and BIS has been off for a few hours at a time for the last 2 days.

I have both, have been a loyal BB subscriber and customer for years. They and I mean the SP's have destroyed the product. Its slower than bloody dil up.
This only happened in the last few years, maybe 2 or 3. Before that it was bloody fantastic. It is still amazing on WIFI

RIM have had two incidents open into MTN for the past several weeks chasing them on:
1. Packet loss
2. The latest incident, for delayed delivery. Meaning RIM are queuing data until the device makes a forced relay connection which takes place every 15 min, at which time queued data is pushed out.
Needless to say the local responses have not been great.

You can only help by reporting the issue constantly with the area that you are in.

You preaching what I have believed for ages now.
The timeframe you state matches what I have been trying to tell the carrier.

I openly state 1 1/2 to 2 years.

By taking the cellular aspect out of the equation and running via WIFI shows that the RIM network is working and the issue lies locally and the APN the local carrier owns and manages till it peers in Europe.

Exactly. +1000000000
But who are we to argue with the qualified rocket scientists working at the networks

I'll say this, RIM are in the same boat with local carriers. Their hands are tied more than you think, or maybe you know already :p

But I ask do we have rocket scientists at the network level.... Mmmmm!
