BIS like services for other phones is just a pipe dream.

BIS is compressed and we all know that text compress dam good, add to this that most blackberry users only use their phones for messages and email means that that R60 you paying works out to be a hell of a lot more megs than other phones. BB users rarely if ever surf the web, and the services like Youtube still cost extra. So in the end you can see the the SP's actually making money off the BB users. Just a simple glance at the Statscounter that shows OS popularity based on web hits will show you this.

Now if they gave people that actually do surf the web BIS, the SP's will lose the cash cow they now have namely, Out of bundle rates. No normal person would ever do something that make them lose money.

lol wake up and smell the coffee, it's been talked about for a while now. The Networks have no control over what apps users buy (yet) that takes care of messaging. It would however be more difficult getting them to setup some sort of cross platform "FREE" internet type service with a monthly subs, AKA RIM BIS.

I don't think RIM is the problem it's the greedy Networks! And like someone mentioned DATA prices are dropping by the day DATA will not be a cash cow for much longer. A guaranteed cut of RIM monthly subs vs the off chance someone goes "out of bundle" for their DATA what would you choose if you were a network?
 
Maybe the share value of RIM will fall low enough for a South African takeover? It may then look better on paper ;)

Was gonna say something about a job at RIM, but thought it safer not too...

As a consumer I have no idea if it's my specific area, my specific network or RIMs own infrastructure - but I also don't care. I'd prefer pay and fast compared to free and painfully slow.

So I'll move to one of other two platforms shortly.

4.5 months to my next upgrade date or 6.5 months and i leave Vodacom for another network provider.
 
I upgrade on the 19th of January and its pretty much cast in stone that I'll be getting myself something with class, destinction and what you could consider a modern piece of art. Pretty much all qualities that I lack :)
