The policies have work-just look at the black middle class-but more still needs to be done. The economy is doing better now than in 94. More people are employed. People have more money, started of living has increases tremendously since 94, so in that regard the policies have worked. Stop parroting the "discrimination is discrimination" line. The biggest problem with this idea is that not a single MP can agree on what it means to be a racist. They reject the dictionary definition because that would mean that a black person could also be racist. Apparently when a black person behaves in a racist manner, it isn't racism, its purely hate speech. Personally I think this country has bigger problems

There seems to be an overwhelming opinion from our ANC and EFF comrades, that blacks simply cannot be racist. Whites are deemed inherently privileged and complicit racists, no matter their background or culture or upbringing.

I feel so sorry for Ernst Roets trying his utmost to use rational arguments in this debate on racism, but it seems to fly over the heads of the other two gentlemen completely.

In my opinion, racism is nothing new, but it seems as if the ANC in particular simply cannot handle any legitimate criticism for their outright incompetence and failure and would much rather distract the masses with the big white racist boogeyman. He sure makes for a good scapegoat and distraction.

Expect much more utterances like this as the election draws nearer.

Someone should point out what the UN view as racism.

"racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin

Part 1 of the UN Convention for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

By the international definition a white person can be racist to another white person (eg an Afrikaner to an English speaker) and a black to another black (eg a Zulu to a Xhosa).

But that doesn't suit the current ANC or EFF agenda.
 
This was a crazy debate. I enjoyed watching it because its clear that there is an obsession with who is or isn't racist rather than trying to fix any problems. They all seem to have such extreme views it was almost comical to watch.

The problem not even considered here is that even foreigners will be grouped in as "white racists who stole from us" and must pay compensation just because of skin colour. If that isn't racist then I don't know what is. I wonder why "xenophobic" attacks aren't mentioned here. Those were not carried out against white Zimbabweans and white Mozambican foreigners, only black ones.

It's called tribalism, and it runs much deeper than any racist rhetoric the ANC and EFF can come up with. They're simply trying to divert attention away from their own issues again.

I think it's evolved from old fashioned tribalism, unless the ANC and EFF now count as tribes.

They should however not go to Afrikaans institutions and then demand it to be English. It just makes sense...

As Ernst Roets says - there is no room for reasonable debate with this type of mentality.

A few questions to Andile, who maintains white privilege stems from land theft and fails to see Africa was at a disatvantage way before the first ship ever landed:
1. If South Africa was occupied by blacks when the first settlers came here, why didn't they repel the settlers?!
2. If it was because they had no guns, WHY did they have no guns?
3. Where is documentation proving landownership?
4. What was the currency of South Africa before van Riebeeck?
5. What was the net worth of South Africa and it's population before van Riebeeck landed in South Africa?

Apartheid WAS an atrocity. But blacks were at a huge disadvantage compared to whites long before the first white man arrived. As proof look at every African country that was never colonised. Not the white mans fault! Or is it? RACISM!

If Africa was worth anything, it would look like the US and Europe and its not even close

BTW those questions already make you a racist.
