Eish, that sucks :( I'm still waiting impatiently for power to go off as well here.
 
Tshwane had my area scheduled for 18:00 - 20:30 last night. Power was off from 18:10 until about 23:45. If you are telling everyone there will load shedding, then at least stick to the ****ing schedule :mad:

Actually the amount of diesel they are burning is staggeringly huge.

It is more than 2 Olympic swimming pools full per DAY (5 million litres).

The Open Cycle Gas Turbines are only 36% efficient, which means for every litre of diesel burnt, only 36% of the energy is turned into electricity, the rest if wasted as heat into the atmosphere.

Since 1 litre of diesel has 10 kilowatt hours of heat energy in it, this means you only get 3.6 kilowatt hours of electricity from a litre of diesel. And if we assume Eskom pays around R10 a litre for diesel (no tax or road levies), then each kilowatt hour costs Eskom R2.78 just in diesel fuel (nevermind operating costs, salaries, transport costs, maintenance etc.)

So Eskom is burning through more than R50 million rand a day.
 
They burn over a billion rand in diesel in a month due to the poor planning and ANC's unwillingness to allow them to build power stations when they wanted to :sick:

Power off here are well now, the only way that is possible is if its STAGE 3 looking at the schedule for my area.

What a mess.
 
In terms of the "Partnership Agreement" for Medupi and Kusile, Eskom set an unprescedented wage scale where all labour were paid R2.50 per km from the site to their actual home on the pay weekends ( so a worker staying in the Eastern Cape could bag R6000 for a weekend trip from Eskom). Eskom also increased the minimum wage of the labour above industry rates. They also paid the labour for travel time from the Eskom provided hostels (free food and lodging) to the site.

This was all done in mid 2011.

What was the result of this? Did Eskom realise massive productivity increases? No quite the opposite.

The labour realised substantial pay increases, while productivity did not increase at all. It has remained relatively the same since the start. The labour learnt by simply striking, they could force Eskom to the bargaining table as Eskom are far too concerned with a site standing due to industrial action.

So incentives to finish Medupi? Yeah been there done there and got the T-shirt and nothing happened.
 
The workforce hold Eskom to ransom while Eskom hold the country to ransom.

Exactly!

They were given increases for striking. So not performance related!

Then Eskom complains to the contractors are too slow! Really? You gave there labour an increase for striking!
