Blood Pressure...

It's really simple. Stay away from fake food, and eat real unprocessed food.

hmmm,

I wonder....

ya might be onto something. See my previous post here.

of the no-no things listed, I on occasion have milo or a fizzy drink ( not even once a week). Salt is eaten within reason.

and my BP is low

Maybe find a good alternative to replace it, maybe just plain soda water?

Libs what do you use to check your blood pressure? I got this from Withings. Works lekker with my iPad.

Looks really nice! Can your phone warn you if your BP exceed a pre-set limit?

I use this from Dischem :

A bit of a shuffle to use, but it's better than nothing.

Processed food <=> tinned food?

We don't eat tinned food that often. At most it is once a month (two tins of baked beans).
Or sardines made into patties for burgers.
Or a tuna salad/tuna filling for pancakes.

But overall we try to eat more vegetables in general, but it is not always easy.

Tinned food is generally LOADED with salt & sugar ... And they use pure sodium chloride.

You absolutely do NOT want to use pure sodium chloride, get yourself a dirty looking gray sea salt, or a pink Himalayan salt. That way you get the full complement of minerals to go with your sodium chloride - the way salt was meant to be eaten. Pure refined salt is poison.

Some people are salt sensitive, and others are not. There is a whole lot of misinformation about it... I would put your focus onto eating real foods (with a focus on vegetables), and limit all refined junk. If you don't see the improvements you need then I would start looking at salt.

If you have the funds available I would look into supplementing magnesium, vitamin D, and omega 3's. But if you are on blood pressure meds then do this in conjunction with your doctor. Actually changing your diet should be done with the supervision of your doctor as well - he may need to reduce the meds.

And don't forget exercise - it is incredibly powerful, and helps with stress too.

Last night 142/92.

Started cooking with coconut oil as well and adding it to my tea, no real flavour for me in my rooibos.

try coconut milk instead of the oil.

Alternatively try parmalat's easi gest. lactose in the milk has been broken down to make the milk friendlly to lactose intollerant people.

Last night : 120/80

Also helping with your cardiovascular system is cayenne pepper.
Note that you have to ingest it via your mouth (mix a teaspoon with water and drink) to get the full benefit. If you go the cowardly way, and put these into capsules, it won't have the same benefit as the drink method.
I tried both. The capsules is for wimps, and don't really offer a benefit, while the first method is pure blecch, but works.
If you don't want to drink it, you can also sprinkle over your food - but not too much, otherwise you won't enjoy the food. ;)

Using coconut oil in general as well.

eh...feel inclined to call BS. Capsules should not affect absorption afaik purely on a common sense basis...half the meds we take come in capsules & it seems to be a reliable delivery method. Though perhaps picking the method that feels least wimp-like might have some psychosomatic effect. :p

Does anyone suffer from white coat syndrome? I do and even taking my own bp freaks me out, especially when the 1st reading is high, it just snowballs from there. The other thing I've noticed is that it's generally about 10 points lower when I'm lying down.

I think I do. The best you can do is to get your own BP machine and do it in the comfort and privacy of your own house. And learn to relax.

if you struggle with trying to relax, get professional help....

probably. Not going to argue that point.... besides, it is a schlepp getting the pepper into the capsules if you DIY... So I just gobblewobble the concoction down....
