BMW 320i vs 320D: your choice?

Nice one Fiesta :) I'd recommend people check that out. The 3 Series really is fun and it doesn't seem to be getting any cheaper. Paying over R500 K for a new one with only a couple options is insanity and I don't think I could ever do that.

Yep good resale value the 3 series, that was one of the deciding factors for me.

Had some fun the last few days, tried sport+ with the gearbox in sport mode , it really pulls for a 2L diesel! Had to wait till I could leave the wife at home to try it lol

Did any of you spot the question on here (in some other thread I think) from the guy asking what it is about BMW indicators that some drivers just keep driving with their indicator flashing away and it doesn't flick off, even when they're going in the opposite direction?

I have an answer to that and I figured it would be fun to share it here: basically, on a BMW the indicators don't cancel until you FIRST turn in the direction you're indicating and THEN turn away.

Every day I drive home from work, I flick the indicator right to indicate that I'll be turning right at the traffic light (as one does), except the trick is that I can do this while approaching the traffic light in a sharp left-handed bend. The indicator stays on and doesn't deactivate until I actually turn right and then counter-steer once I'm going straight.

So there you go, random BMW fact for the day :)

The frustrating downside of that is that you quite regularly find yourself having to cancel turns manually, just because the car will hang onto the initial direction. And there's the answer to the original question.

When I bought mine (2013 320D), I looked at second hand.
I couldnt find one I wanted. I ended speccing a new car with all the options I wanted for about R30k over a pre-owend car.
To me that was a no brainer. I was in a fortunate position to be able to do this though.
They are crazy pricey now. The equivalent replacement 320D with as close as possible spec as mine is almost 50% more costly than in 2013.
Certainly cannot afford a new one now.
 
I think need work on my fuel consumption it seems, only getting 6.7L/100km mostly in traffic through. Hardly ever get chance to put my foot down :P

When I fill up the trip computer says 820km left, have seen some guys trip computers showing 1200km left when they fill up!

That's great lol, my fuel consumption is 8.5 litres/100km.

I also hardly put my foot down too much, but whatever concerns I have about fuel consumption disappear when I do :D So much more fun than my old Citroen C3 (and even that did 6.5l/100km).

Yeah the i20 was killing me, thought it was normal just to have leg pain after driving :p

No more pain at all, maybe now and then a bit stiffness. The stiffness goes away after few min, the pain in my legs was almost there for the whole day after driving to work!

Yup....currently between Mini and 1 series. Keep changing my mind. I don't really need space....80% of the time it is just me and my lunch box in the vehicle. :p

‘Bad boy’ BMW driver nabbed at 241 km/h in Gauteng!

A motorist has reportedly been caught doing 241 km/h on the N4 freeway east of Pretoria.

According to TimesLive, the 31-year-old male was nabbed speeding in the 120 km/h zone in his BMW 330i in Gauteng in the early hours of Wednesday. The publication reports that the speedster claimed to be rushing to his place of work in Middelburg.

He was arrested and charged with both reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit, and is expected to appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.

Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, Gauteng MEC for community safety‚ told TimesLive that speeding was to blame for “most fatal crashes”.

“Most fatal crashes are as a result of this bad boy behaviour by motorists. Statistics indicates that most accidents are caused by motorists driving on excessive speed‚” Nkosi-Malobane said.

“This new pattern of driving at an extreme speed is scary. I therefore condemn it in harshest terms. Anyone found guilty of such bad driving behaviour must be dealt with in strong harshest terms.

“The law enforcement agencies must root out this monstrous behaviour amongst drivers and ensure that we minimise the high volume of accidents on our roads‚” she added.
