BMW confirms four-door 8 Series is on the way to rival Porsche Panamera, with reveal due in the coming weeks
BMW will broaden its 8 Series to three bodystyles with a four-door coupe this year – and photos of the new machine have leaked online ahead of its reveal.
The Porsche Panamera rival is due to launch shortly, with BMW recently issuing the first official teaser image, but new leaked pictures show the car in full. First posted to the Bimmerpost forum, they show how the 8 Series has grown in size to accommodate the extra doors, with a newly elongated rear. The shape is still recognisable from the two-door car, though.
The new car takes over the market position previously occupied by the old 6 Series Gran Coupe and is directly aimed at cars such as the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz CLS. It shares its engines and underpinnings with the 8 Series Coupe, but with an extended wheelbase and raised roofline offering more passenger and luggage room.
Previous spy images also showed the design is a familiar adaptation of the coupe and convertible, with the undisguised front end looking largely identical and a recognisable rear shape. It's not clear yet, however, whether two or three rear seats will be offered; the coupe is a strict two-seater in the back.

The BMW 8 Series is available in coupe and convertible versions, with an assortment of engines to choose from. The range is set to expand with the addition of a 4-door Gran Coupe version, which you see here in some leaked images.
The addition of 2 doors means more cabin space, which will be appreciated for rear passengers it can't be easy getting into the rear in the current 2-door setup.

New 8 Series Gran Coupé will go on sale in the UK this September with choice of straight-six and V8 engines
BMW has rounded out its new 8 Series line-up with the Gran Coupé. The new four-door 8 Series will go on sale in September after a Frankfurt motor show debut, priced from £69,340.
The Gran Coupé joins the 8 Series Coupé and Convertible with a line-up that will comprise six-cylinder and V8 models, including the rapid new 516bhp M850i xDrive Gran Coupé. The 8 Series Gran Coupé replaces the discontinued 6 Series Gran Coupé in a growing market segment that will place it up against high-end versions of the Audi A7and Mercedes-Benz CLS, as well as the Porsche Panamera.
At 5082mm long, 1932mm wide and 1407mm tall, the 8 Series Gran Coupé is 239mm longer, 30mm wider and 66mm taller that its coupé sibling.
The 8 Series Gran Coupé has a traditional boot at the rear, with a 440-litre capacity. The load length can be extended when the 40/20/40-configured rear seat is folded down.

BMW has unveiled its fresh-faced 8 Series Gran Coupé, billing the newcomer as a “four-door sports car for the luxury segment” with greater spaciousness in the rear.
Developed alongside the two-door 8 Series Coupé, the new model is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the final quarter of 2019.
Locally, the range will comprise the M850i xDrive Gran Coupé (with a 390 kW/750 N.m 4,4-litre V8 petrol engine), the rear-driven 840i Gran Coupé (with a 250 kW/500 N.m 3,0-litre inline-six petrol unit) and the 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (with a 235 kW/680 N.m 3,0-litre inline-six diesel motor). That means the all-paw version of the 840i won’t be offered in South Africa.
All derivatives employ an eight-speed automatic transmission. The M850i will hit 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 3,9 seconds (some two-tenths slower than the two-door version), while the 840i will come in at 5,2 seconds and the 840d at 5,1 seconds. Expect an M8 version to be unveiled at a later stage.
So, how does this new model differ from the two-door (besides gaining a pair of extra portals)? Well, the wheelbase is some 201 mm longer than that of the coupé, while the rear bench comprises outer pews “styled as individual seats with integral head restraints” and a third middle seat “suitable for use on short journeys”.

A few months ago, in a secret underground room at the Conrad Hotel in Algarve, Portugal, BMW pulled the covers off its new 8 Series Gran Coupe. The few of us that were allowed into the room were warned; no cameras, no phones, no leaks. They said this was still a pre-production car, an M850i with xDrive, however the car pretty much looked finished and in fact, I'm dead certain it's the exact car you're looking at in these pictures.
Nevertheless, pictures of the 8 GC were leaked onto the interwebs few weeks ago while still under embargo, but now we can officially tell you everything we know about the latest Gran Coupe from BMW.

First up, let's discuss the scale of the thing. It's a huge car, think 7 Series in terms of presence and bulk, but sleeker, with a more raked stance and more muscular haunches for onlookers to gawk at.

Spotted an M850i xDrive a few minutes ago on Old Paarl heading towards Durbanville, sorry for the crap pic but it was really shifting and sounded brilliant. This one was kitted out with the optional M Performance goodies
Good thing for him he didn’t have plates. That stretch from the Engen intersection to the Paarl road has the fixed yellow cameras and mobile kfc brigade units regularly. See there’s also something like a camera in guise of a electric box of sorts, on the median on that same stretch.

Oh trust me I know about that one specific camera, it caught me out a few times and they keep moving the bloody thing every few weeks. But I saw some clever vandals spray painted the lenses of the fixed camera opposite Hollow Tree black

BMW M850i with AC Schnitzer Parts Coming to Goodwood
BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has modified the 8 Series coupe and will be showing it off at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The modified M850i xDrive you see here showcases 2 examples of AC Schnitzer's work. First up is the new homologated carbon fibre rear spoiler for additional downforce and grip, the second is the stainless steel sports exhaust, which you can hear at the bottom of this article.
However, AC Schnitzer isn't just about looks and noise and the tuner claims there's a performance upgrade thrown into the mix too. AC Schnitzer offers additional performance for both the 840d and the M850i. The diesel-powered model sees power jump from 235 kW to 280 kW, while its petrol-powered sibling sees massive gains with 390 kW stock becoming 456 kW, which interestingly is very close to the flagship BMW M8.
