Another wonderful performance by Pienaar . 1/4 (or is 5?) kicks. Certainly deserves his place in the team. I wonder what MH will say now. Remember, Steyn at least gets the kicks over.

Oh, so we forgot his try have we. And the contribution he is making to creating so much space for the outside backs

We should then take Victor off for fluffing it when we had three players on one outside..... And Jean should go for kicking the ball when the same overlap existed....

Ha ha and I haven't even missed one kick at poles yet! ;)

Well you guys got your wish as Ruan is injured.... so now let's see. Even Joel is talking about the space he created etc... the things couch selectors/experts never realise!

His primary role is to get his penalties and conversions over. He is failing dismally - like he did against the Lions. His one try, which was good, doesn't take away from the fact that he shouldn't be goal-kicking. Yes, Morne Steyn can't "read" the play as well as Pienaar, but South Africa should be at least 6 more points up on the ABs...we shall see if that effects the outcome of the match. Victor and Jean are doing the jobs they are meant to do - Pienaar isn't.

I agree. His kicking is suffering today but his gameplay is very good!

A flyhalf's role is a lot more than kicking penalties!!! If Ruan were not injured it would have been best to give the kicking to Frans and keep Ruan there for his other play. He takes a lot of pressure off Fourie as well as if he gets caught up in a ruck he knows there is a perfect replacement waiting behind the ruck... priceless options!

His try was as a result of his scrumhalf "beginnings". Any "normal" flyhalf would probably not have made that sniping run.

So now someone please tell me where the HUGE gaps in defence have come from all of a sudden!?!?!? From about the time Morne Steyn came on!

That try was as a result of Conrad Smith running right thought that bloody idiot Morne Steyn! Whooppppeeee do so he gets 3 points, which Frans could have got anyway, and gives away 7! Nice! As much as I hope the Boks win I hope you idiot supporters of his learn your lesson!

We would have won by a larger margin if we'd kicked those balls over but other that it was a brilliant performance by the lads. Noticed a HUGE change in discipline, usually when I watch a Bok game you sit expecting a penalty at each breakdown...they were so disciplined i think it even confused the AB's themselves.

I never thought I'd ever say this but I didn't even notice the absence of Schalk.

Bokke!!!

Good on Morne for leaking the try  And Ruan needs big work on his kicking. Absolutely stoked that we won this first game :D

And Morne gets 9 points for the Springboks...just proved his worth yet again. And one was from 50 metres. Ruan cost us 9 points in total :p

You guys are so blinkered when it comes to Morne! If the truth is told Morne scored 9 points in penalties, two of which Frans would have taken anyway if Ruan was on the field, but clearly was responsible for giving away 7 when Conrad Smith ran right over him.

Ruan scored a try of his own making and kicked a further penalty.

Final tally Ruan 8, Morne 2... .and the winner is!

And this is purely taking into account kicking. In all honesty Morne is shocking in general play. Keep an eye on him and watch how often he thinks he is playing touch rugby and touches the attacking players rather than tackling them. Take a peek at the possession and territory stats between the two halves. And what was the only change? Flyhalf! Makes one think... well except those blind Bulls fans who will not see this...

I thought the primary goal of a fly-half is to spread the ball, decide when to kick or run.
He is a bad kicker yes, but he controlled the game well,
