So I got my fibre router installed yesterday and realised this thing still has 802.11n - an 8 year old standard! I would think in fibre equipment they'd drop N ...

So I need to beef up my WiFi and the place is only 80sqm. I looked at the Ubiquiti but they're physically pretty large.

I do like their on wall solution though for hospitality - anyone tried? Think it'll work?

Otherwise Mesh units, but they're pretty expensive. I think the best price is AirTies at R4,500.00 and it just escalates from there.

Ubiquiti Amplifi.

But don’t know the router too much on being 802.11n when you find out that’s what all that most of your clients support too.

I try hardwire everything, so my only client is my phone which according to GSM Arena is Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band.

They gave me a Gigahub and I read the WiFi was bad - but I tried from my bedroom and it says linkspeed 24Mbps. My old VDSL Pace was 54Mbps in the same locations. So worse than bad ;)

If I got the Ubiquiti, I guess it'd connect to a LAN port and act as an AP only?

The Amplifi is a Mesh setup.

But yes the hub part would connect to Router.

Do you really nee anything more than 802.11n on a phone though?

If it’s setup for 5ghz switch to 2.4 instead.

Try 20hz over 40hz channel width etc.

The range on 2.4 is much more than 5Ghz and you won't notice the difference on your phone I can guarantee you.

I know this becuase my entire house is 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz and all wifi devices use the NAS and chromcast ultra devices the internet.

Ok I'll give it another bash and see if I really need more on my phone. I saw half the linkspeed compared to my Telkom Pace and my jaw dropped.

I thought things improved over time!

Thanks
