Guys i am having a real problem here.I am using a proline brand new notebook, getting into the bios is not possible as itspassword protected, hence the quick boot selection is locked and secure boot is probably is locked. There was no OS installed and i managed to make a bootable usb with windows 8.1 on and it worked.

Windows 8.1 installed fine and is running great. The client requested now for windows 10 after 3 months of using win 8.
this is where its tricky.
1-i tried windows 10 on bootable usb,not working,pc boots back into win 8
2-I tried within windows 8 advanced boot options via uefi solution, this did not work either.
3-I dont have a bootable dvd at hand(who uses dvd's today anyway)
4-I cant access bios to change boot setup(i guess its on default meaning dvd first then HDD0.
5-owner cannot remember password as he fiddles(idiots)
6-i disconnected bios bkup battery(but password is stored on chip)not resetting:cry:
7-called help and support at pinnacle micra, they cant help cause one needs a new mother board costing R975,weird but true
10-tried fplop boot manager, but getting mbr error 72.

What on gawds green earth is there for me to do to install windows 10 on the second partition.Downloading the upgrade is not an option here. What solution do you suggest.I was hoping i could trick pc to thing usb is a dvd drive on boot,or disconnect dvd drive and hope bios sees the bootable usb.I am out of ideas is there another solution here that i am not seeing.

are you sure there is no F12 or F10 option at boot to select boot device?

I am pretty sure there is a cmos reset on every board, even if there are no jumpers, you usually just connect 2 little soldering points when no jumpers.

I suppose pinnacle makes more money replacing the board?

edit:
oh yes, Hirens... pretty sure there is a BIOS password remover there somewhere.

thanks,i went down that road ,i tried hirens stuff nothing worked, th boot selection option button also producers a password box.any more ideas people thanks
i asked tech support, there is no jumper or solder dots to reset.at least this is what they say.I did look at the board i cant see anything there...lol shorting out the flash chip is not an option to.

Your on your own. I always paste advice on these forums which no-one follow and I just end up looking like a fool. BTW Mybb is not your personal tech advice corner. I don't think why there are these threads all the time.

So what advice would you have offered the OP?

I tried everything, the only thing to do is try and find the chip then yank it off :D

terrific idea. hope you've got warranty.

There is an identical thread to this one which OP could have posted in. So here is my advice to OP: practice searching for threads with your identical problem, especially if said identical thread was posted no less than one day ago. Maybe you will find the answer you seek there, or maybe you will just get more jeers from fellow posters who love to waste amateurs' time.

Ignore the troll.

How did you manage to boot Windows 8.1 off a usb but not Windows 10?

If you enter an incorrect password a few times, do you get a 'system disabled' or similar message?

This is normal:

On the clean disk (without partitions) BIOS will try to boot from secondary device. It is why it happened.

Having said so, I don't say it is a way to do it, just in reverse. Problem arose as OP was trying upgrade to WinX by booting from the installation media. Such copy will never activate.

Correct procedure is to boot to the old Windows, then mount ISO (by double clicking on it) and run setup.exe program from the virtual drive. Have Internet connection ready and activate WindowsX, then in the second step you can consider clean installation (or wait for October maintenance release).

Mine is activated after clean disk format and new partitioning and install. I had to do the upgrade first but I didn't even use the same Microsoft account (I don't know how to clean the crap off OneDrive like IE history)

this is a mystery,But i think its got to do with the secure boot as this pc had 8.1 as standard,I happen to install the right one,and also there was no OS on,so it had to see something to load a system..i think.

3 times wrong the text box freezes and says invalid password.then i have to hit cntrl alt and delete to start over or enter windows 8.1.
I spoke to the sales manager at proline,He will be in touch real soon.
