booting form usb cause bios is locked

Can you not upgrade by mounting the Windows 10 iso and doing an upgrade?

Having said so, I don't say it is a way to do it, just in reverse. Problem arose as OP was trying upgrade to WinX by booting from the installation media. Such copy will never activate.

Correct procedure is to boot to the old Windows, then mount ISO (by double clicking on it) and run setup.exe program from the virtual drive. Have Internet connection ready and activate WindowsX, then in the second step you can consider clean installation (or wait for October maintenance release).

Well i tried that a few days ago and i got an error please use 64 bit media error..something like that,like i said i tried everything to my best ability.

most googled answers was take back to manufacturer or flash new chip.This is uefi crappy stuff.

lol..i even tried the asus method with uefi password reset trick.that was a fail to

1 solution i do have is ,make the hardrive one partition again delete 8.1 completely and start fresh with win 10.An extreme solution which has big risks.

You talk about idiots (some others), but you didn't read what I wrote and trying to argue. Once you have upgraded from the working copy and activated you can do everything you like. MS account doesn't matter at all.

Wrong. It would be clean install. You have to upgrade from the working copy of Win8 first and activate WinX online. After you finish this you can do clean install.

What is a current Windows version? Read upgrade path from MS website. Get right ISO version matching your current Windows HOME/PRo etc...
Also if your current Windows is 32-bit, you can't install 64-bit version during the upgrade process. It will be possible later though.

i did match it 64 bit 8.1 and win 10 64 bit,The iso is a aio.

i cant upgrade,the uefi is locked on secure boot,I need to turn it off, but the password is stopping me
 
So, how about taking out the HD and using it in another PC which CAN boot , install on there?

Also keep in mind , alot of these newer PCs and in my case, it was my windows tablet, the HD -must- be formatted in that GPT/EUFI partitioning (it creates like multiple partitions , including a special boot partition), before installing the OS. Otherwise even if you manage to boot into the ISO/DVD/USB and install windows perfectly, it will not actually boot from the HD.

This is a setting in the BIOS , so must make sure what is actually set in there . The "legacy" mode is the classic, single partition format with the master boot record on the same partition etc , but i saw this new GPT format crop up all over lately. So if you install your OS on the wrong partition-format, it won't boot and will keep telling you it can't find the OS.

On my dell laptop i installed windows 10 on second partition which had win 8 on and i used bootable usb with iso aio,everthing was fine but booting into first partition with in 8.1 i found office no longer work and some programs shortcuts are invalid,weird
i am sure if i take the hdd out and ry installing on another pc and put it back,i am sure i am gonna be greeted with invalid driver errors and display driver errors and a nice phat windows automated start up repair.Dont smaak all that buzzle

Irrelevant for this case. Upgrade process require to boot from the existing installation of Windows and run setup program from the qualified installation media. So download the right ISO as others suggested.

Alternatively you can upgrade by Windows Update. These are only two methods approved by Microsoft.

Thanks i gonna try your solution and use a standalone 64 bit iso,if this dont work then gonna do the upgrade from within win8.1
I have contacted the pinnacle micra the manufacturer and spoken to the manager there,I emailed them a picture and the transcript :D
One answer i got was silly from one techie..lokl.........did your user enable bitlocker what a joke* feeding rat poison*
